500,000 cases, only a few thousand needing hospital treatment. By mid April people will realize NBD.

500,000 by April is 2 million by early May. With 20% requiring hospitalization and poof--not a single open hospital bed in the USA.

Numbers don?t indefinitely trend upwards. China has barely any new cases, and South Korea now also seeing a decline.

They trend upwards until enough people have had it and cleared the virus from their systems that herd immunity kicks in. If you want to compare us to China then you really need to start seeing the steps China took happen here. Everyone is locked in their homes and only one person may leave once a month to get food. Those draconian steps will NEVER EVER EVER happen here.

This is not true. I watched a few videos of people in quarantine. They went out to the grocery stores as needed. The grocery store as well as a few other stores were open. They have very small fridges so were going out a couple times a week. They met up with other friends to go to the stores together. There were quite a few people in the stores. There was no one monitoring their comings and goings. (They were in Wuhan). They wore protective eye wear and masks. There were fines for driving your car but not for being out on the street walking. There were still cars on the road but only a few - guess people who felt they absolutely had to go somewhere so took the risk of being caught.

one small correction to your post- in China, one person can go out to get food once every couple days.

The Virginia Department of Health (VDH) announced that an Arlington County resident has tested positive for coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). VDH and the Arlington County Public Health Division (ACPHD) are working together to identify any close contacts of this resident who would require testing or monitoring for symptoms of COVID-19. This is the third presumptive positive result, with the other two being a Marine Base Quantico resident and Fairfax City resident. All three cases were exposed through international travel.

Again, you need to distinguish between quarantine and social distancing. China absolutely quarantined (as in, not allowed to leave) anyone who tested positive. They opened giant make-shift hospitals for that and also comandeered hotels and dorms. They also took measures (of varying degrees) to make everyone else stay at home, especially in Wuhan. First person accounts I've read reflect that households were allowed to have one person leave every few days to shop. China also tightened up the Wuhan movements restrictions over time, so you may have seen videos from earlier on.

?Today, the District of Columbia Department of Health issued precautionary measures to the community of Christ Church in Georgetown, where a member has contracted the virus. In addition, Maryland and Virginia have identified several cases. If you or anyone in your household is a member of an affected community, believes that you have interacted with members of an affected community, or have otherwise potentially been exposed to COVID-19 under any circumstances, do not send your child to school. Please follow the self-isolation guidelines we have posted at ...We will collaborate with families to ensure that learning continues throughout self-isolation periods and other absences related to the virus...?

Cathedral Schools said this basically:

"We remain in close touch with infectious disease experts, whose recommendations we are following. Based on their recommendations, we ask that children who exhibit any symptoms of any illness stay at home. In addition, we ask that any adult or child who has had close contact within the past 14 days with someone who has contracted coronavirus disease seek medical advice before returning to school."

Cathedral Schools response does not seem stringent enough. I would not limit it to ?close? contact and would tell people to self-quarantine for two weeks if they came in contact. The government is testing only a small fraction of people with symptoms because of lack of testing kits. Many more people have been exposed but will never be tested. You can?t wait for positive tests to self-quarantine if you?ve had any contact. I imagine there are several families from the Cathedral Schools who attended services at Chris Church over the last few weeks.

The NCS/St. Alban's message did seem a bit wishy-washy compared to Sidwell or the new policy from the mayor. They could have been a bit firmer in the recommendations.

I work at a place that has a health center. I asked them last Friday, 3/6 what would you do if someone came in and asked for the test.

He said that the VA Dept of Public Health only had 50 tests for the whole state - yes 50!! So the bar had to be really high for the health center to request and get a test. I am hoping the number of tests available in the state has increased since Friday.

Sounds like I should stop going to church for time being. Everyone who attended that church is being asked to self-quarantine!
