And now Trump’s heading to Camp david to hang out in a bubble where he won’t even notice any impact of the shutdown.

And those policies are passed by the elected officials of the party in power. Are you saying you don't want the GOP to pass any laws? Not that they need any help in that department.

Do you realize that the people who head these departments are not "lifers"? They are installed by the president and every 4 years they can and do change (if not sooner). Also the policies are based on the laws that are passed so they don't get to just decide what the policies will be. Have you ever been involved in this process?

Democrats all voted for the wall in the past

Secure Fence Act, a 2006 political compromise on immigration. Signed by President Bush and supported by 90 Democratic members of Congress, it included funding for "two layers of reinforced fencing" plus "additional physical barriers" along roughly 700 miles of border from California to Texas.

Among the senators who backed it: Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton, and current Minority Leader Chuck Schumer.

Exactly! Democrats have never been opposed to barriers/fencing. But a 1,000 mile 35 foot tall concrete wall between allied country is not a good idea. I’m glad that hecis realizing this and is now changing his tune.

you morons still can't see the difference between the 2006 act and Trump's proposal? lacking analytical skills, eh?

maybe go back to watching FoxNews - don't want you to sprain a brain cell.

Exactly, I know some members of Trumps base and they won't know the difference, as long as he declares a "win" of some kind.

He could even take the same compromise out that Congress came up with before Christmas, declare it "his" idea, and call it a win, and his base won't know the difference.

How elitist of you. My bet is that you don't actually know any of "Trump's base" but are basing your comments on the stereotypes you carry.

And, for those of you who say, "Walls don't work".....

Don't you find it just a bit hypocritical that before Obama moved into his Kalorama home, the first thing he had done was to create fencing around his home?
Not to mention all the other politicians that have walls or fences or barriers around their properties...........

LOL. Turn off foxnews. It makes you sound like an IDIOT.

https://www.tmz.com/2017/01/06/president-obama-dc-house-brick-wall/

According to PopSugar, a brick wall is being built in front of the house—a development that seems a bit ironic given Donald Trump's promise to build a wall on the U.S.-Mexico border. Additionally, the garage is being converted into an office, potentially the spot where Michelle or Barack Obama will pen their next memoir.

https://www.architecturaldigest.com/story/obama-home-renovations

As Barack Obama waxes eloquent about the supposed negative impact of walls on humanity, crews have completed the wall surrounding his Washington, DC home.

Grabien reports:

Sitting alongside German Chancellor Angela Merkel, former President Obama lectured the current administration about its immigration policy Thursday.

While not mentioning President Trump by name, Obama made clear to whom he was leveling his criticism.

“In this new world that we live in we can’t isolate ourselves,” Obama said. “We can’t hide behind a wall.”

But that’s exactly what Obama is doing in his Washington, DC and Chicago homes.

Crews have completed the brick and metal wall surrounding his home in the tony Kalorama neighborhood in DC.

So you just happened to be reading a year-old TMZ article today?

Like I said, turn off FoxNews.

No, actually I recall discussion on this board when it was made public that the Obamas were going to rent the home that they were having a fence installed. That decision was actually lauded here. Go figure.
A simple google search pulled up some citations.

So you are saying that you just randomly happened to remember some old discussion on DCUM about the Obama's home. And then, coincidentally, just a few days ago it was big news in FoxNewslandia.
https://www.foxnews.com/politics/if-the-obamas-have-a-wall-around-their-dc-mansion-us-border-should-too-trump

TOTALLY believable.

So that’s what happened, right? Just a funny coincidence?

Well? Waiting with bated breath to hear more about your "coincidence" and how you don't watch FoxNews.

Thus we get 3000 page bills that have all sorts of stuff packed (hidden) in them and referring to other documents that are virually impossible to trace. The federal register is far too big and far to damaging to everyday people.

We were never meant to be RULED by career politicians and bureaucrats. They were supposed to come to DC a couple of months out of the year and then go back home FFS. This federal leviathan is like a kingdom on steroids and has been since FDR.

You don’t seem to know/understand how government regulations are written.

FOX “news” and lack of civics class will do this to people.

Are these the new talking points? Quite the pivot from Obama's fence.

Your ignorance of the country’s history is disturbing. FDR has nothing to do with career federal employees.

It sounds like you want a return to the spoils system.

Because you would prefer democrats control the narrative: Impeach! Mueller! Russia!

I would prefer we open the government and pass laws they HELP people. What do you want?

You can’t own the libs forever.

I would prefer they keep the govt closed and pass less laws. We've had 200+ years of government and we have laws running out of our a****.

Maybe it's time to take a break from anymore unelected workers imposing more policy, law and paper on us. I don't need Washington DC to run every aspect of my life, unlike you hope for.

Great idea! Right now we have laws passed by elected people and regulations (to implement the laws these elected people passed) written by subject matter experts who are career professionals whose only loyalty is to the Constitution and who serve the interests of the people.
What we seem to be moving towards is a system where the elected officials of one party doesn’t question the will of the president even when his actions might harm their constituents. Instead of regulations being written by career professionals who are subject matter experts we have former lobbyists installed at agencies like the EPA and Interior departments and they are intent on dismantling regulations that protect people and on giving our national treasures away to private companies. Most fundamentally they don’t seem to want to uphold that bedrock democratic institutions: the rule of law. No one should be above the law in a democracy We have seen so much corruption by Cabinet officials and high level political appointees and we now have a corrupt toady (Whittaker) as acting AG

Pp, don’t even try. This person can’t be reasoned with. Too much Alex Jones. Sad.
