For us, the disappointment if we're moved to Crown is that when we bought here the appeal was all 3 schools being walkable and the middle & high schools backing up to each other. As a parent of 3 kids, I liked that convenience.

Of course I can see the appeal of Crown if that's what ends up happening, but it isn't what we ever anticipated would be happening. How many months did you all on this forum say to "buy in the walk zone" of your desired school to avoid getting changed with the new boundaries.

We're not all as rich as you people think. We made sacrifices to move here after being zoned for an e.s. & m.s. that were having major behavioral problems when virtual learning ended. Stop talking like you want us punished with collapsing home values in an economy where life is hard enough.

All the issues you see now were also there precovid. Stop blaming covid. If you live in a million dollar house you are rich,

And here's an example of a home in King Farm:

In all honesty, when they first started talking about Crown, I thought that his part of King Farm would get zoned to Crown HS.

So just send them to Gaithersburg High School now-i’m sure they will do fine and graduate! I imagine Cosa’s for that school are granted easily since it’s not at capacity AND nobody actually ever asks to Cosa there.

Crown HS is the same as Gaithersburg HS? Is that what I said d-bag? I genuinely don't understand what the big deal is. Crown HS is brand spanking new in a very nice area

It will be the same, yes. It’s pulling from 2 GHS feeder elementary schools. One listed right on option H and the other will be added (fields road). So yes-will be the same kind of HS when it comes to behavior/performance level.

Not true. In option H, there is a small part of Rosemont elementary - only the part of Rosemont near Crown, that would go to Crown. Houses in Crown sell for over 1 million dollars.

The part of Rosemont north of 270 would not go to Crown. There is no second elementary school. Students of Fields Roads who go to Quince Orchard, not Gaithersburg High School, are advocating for Option H to be modified to allow them to go to Crown.

Who in their right mind is paying a million for a property zoned for GHS??? Because as of right now that part of Crown that goes to rosemont goes to GHS correct??

I haven't been keeping track of all the rezonings but the part of King Farm north of Redland Road was zoned to Gaithersburg HS and the homes likely were close to the 1 million dollar range.

And homes off of 124 are also zoned for Gaithersburg HS like this one:
https://www.redfin.com/MD/Gaithersburg/9117-Goshen-Valley-Dr-20882/home/10488146

I know it's probably a bit besides the point and this discussion is more in regards to the Crown area.

But there are/were areas with million dollar homes zoned to Gaithersburg HS. And schools aren't a factor for everyone in choosing where to live.

You bought near Wootton so you will not be shortchanged. And you will still be going to Wootton whether your kid walks or takes the bus to Wootton at Crown. Would you rather your kid stays in an unsafe moldy school (according to that petition with 1800 signatures) for the next 10 years or would you rather they get on the bus and go to a safe school?

Your school is not next in line for renovations, so you will have to wait for the next 10 years at the minimum, so Wootton going to Crown was a gift from MCPS.

If I were in your shoes, I will gladly take a new school even if my kid has to take the bus.

It's because the ^PP doesn't want their kids associating with too many black/brown kids. Wouldn't be surprised if they support Trump and call Somalis "garbage".

Baa haha. Prob same hypocrit with the acceptance and belonging signs in front yard too. Now showing the true color

made to add Fields road to option H. How big are Rosemont and Fields road? Wootton already has a pretty significant population so I imagine this would just be another situation of making a school overcrowded right from the get go which kind of defeats the entire purpose? Also, I hate that The middle schools don’t go to high school together-that is so backwards and I haven’t seen that in any other district I have lived in. You basically have to start over in High School.

500+ students for both fields road and crown from rosemont. It could grow to 1000 as there are still new housing development. It doesn’t work for capacity unless they move some Wootton ES out.

And this is why I keep saying they need to move out Dufief and parts of Travilah out. Fields Road belongs in Crown so to accommodate them something has to go out from Wootton.

And I keep saying A-D has Dufief at Crown, E-H has Dufief at Wootton, the county is saying no more official options, so will they just completely blindside Dufief and move them to QO? They probably would, but doing that is a complete violation of trust in the process.

Wasn't Dufief to QO at one point? Wouldnt really be a blindside right? Or did they replace QO with Crown?

Couple of the round 1 June options had them going to QO when they were doing all the crazy redistricting everywhere but MCPS has repeatedly said that strategy is off the table- and those options are off the table- now that the regional model is part of the boundary study. So yeah, you could say it isn't a complete blindside. Instead it would be an outright lie.

Strategies change based on other needs. Wootton going to Crown was never part of the plan then but then Wootton parents put up a big show with petitions flying around to save their children from an unsafe school. MCPS listened and now you have Option H. And Fields Road community is opposed to going elsewhere than their neighborhood school and who could blame them. MCPS has to listen to them too.

Wootton parents got what they asked for with regards to a safe school. And if Dufief or Travilah has to move to accommodate Fields Road so be it. It makes logical sense that Fields Road goes to Crown, not Dufief or Travilah. You can thank the Wootton parents who circulated those petitions.

Yeap we definitely should thank those parents because Wootton is one of the oldest buildings and constantly pushed back and off of the CIP.

If anyone should be mad at anyone, the anger should be directed towards the decision makers who allowed the maintenance to get pushed back to this extent.

Then remember this when it comes time for elections which parties and groups to affiliate with.

You can't have it all. There will be unhappy parents no matter what they do.

By moving Wootton to Crown and adding Fields Road, they just have a new set of walkers - the Fields Road ES cluster.

And if they move Dufief or Travilah to QO, it should not matter since they will be be bussed a shorter distance now and that is a good thing right?

Not what those schools want, they don't mind the extra mile on the bus, but their feedback doesn't matter, right? Just everyone else's.

I'm sure they don't, but it does not work that way does it? MCPS has to consider all factors and decide what is best.

But that’s the point the Wootton families are trying to make-There are numerous high schools closer to Wootton neighborhoods than Crown so how does it make sense to move there? If you are using the distance as a factor the whole option H should be thrown out.

Yes I was initially on board with option H but now with all of the proposed changes it’s not the same option. I’m 100% for either holding school option, E or F. Still saves the county a ton of money versus A-D and we don’t have all of this chaotic change.

G as a hybrid makes no sense. Administration would be impossible.

Damascus parent here - agree with A- F being the preferred compromise for majority of the most pressing needs in the county right now including our community, Wootton and Magruder. Although it’s not perfect, we need a solution. Highly encourage anyone else who agrees to write to the board of Ed, Cat Malchodi, Dr. Taylor and any councilmember who may help. Don’t forget to complete the boundary study surveys . Venting here makes for a lively debate but if you want real action please do those things , regardless of your position
