The 2012 had a fairly even representation between MD and VA clubs based on the invite list. No idea how they performed though.

I have taken the FA Scouting course and I will say a kid's talent was not identified during the session. Most players that were selected to attend the ID Sessions, were, in part, due to how their club's felt about them. Their clubs had a much longer period of time to see their talent and they stood out as the Bigger Fish in a Small Pond. Now, that all those big fish are placed together, it is harder to stand out in such a short amount of time. While each player most likely possessed and showcased a talent that got them there, those talents weren't much better then the other talented kids or they did not showcase those same talents when confronted by the other big fish. Numerically speaking, out of the 40 or so kids that attend the ID Sessions, only about 10 will be selected for the next Mini-Camps in February.

Considering that steep cut, they really have to display their talent, with full confidence for the whole session. But the selection does not come down to talent alone. They have to also be more mature than the other players, they have to be passionate and enthusiastic & they have to be well liked.

I would add (or summarize?) work ethic. Every player has an off day or gets beat on the dribble/misses a chance, how do they then respond? Did they work hard?

it's like bragging about being invited to apply to an elite school if you can pass the entrance exam. Most students don't get invited to start with. The invite is an accomplishment

No, they merely say not to post that it’s an official call up to the USYNT.

It’s fine, it’s something to be proud of to even just be selected. Yes, it may not be a big deal for players who have loftier aspirations but that shouldn’t take away from the fact those invited are very good and worked hard to be that way.

You can raise your player to have crazy high aspirations without putting others down.

Many find out on social media when invitees (or their parents) share the news. Player selections aren’t surprising either.

Girls selection seems wild in comparison.




Boys selections are announced on social media, just like the girls. It’s just that the girls parents are crazy about it.

It's not just the girls parents. I've seen social media posts from girl soccer players that they attended a college's ID camp. Mind you these are camps where anyone can sign up and pay to attend. Also have also seen posts about having phone calls with college coaches. Sometimes they'll mention the conference. Look at me, I'm talking to a Big Ten coach! Do people really think these social media posts get coaches interested in them? If I were a coach it would have the opposite effect of trying too hard and must not be very good on the field if they need to resort to PR tricks.
