The difference is, their stated goal is to eliminate numerous jobs even though they’re “necessary” and are doing it for spite. Additionally, government employees often take their jobs despite lower pay and sometimes thankless hours because of the mission and the steadiness of employment while most private sector workers know their jobs may be eliminated based on management’s whims/direction. You cannot compare the two.

Yeah I do actually feel bad for teachers and I don’t blame them for burning out and deciding to leave. I don’t expect them to stay in the profession out of mere affection and empathy for children. I’m sure they do care about the kids, but that has limits.

Same with police officers. It’s a tough profession to be in. There is a legit public interest in helping people in public facing roles like police, social workers, etc. from becoming cynical and quitting. People have limits and it’s unrealistic to expect them to keep a Pollyanna outlook while being generally underpaid and undervalued.

Of course I would never compare my job to these (just responding to your assertion about my feelings on these professions). But the reality is that most people aren’t going to their jobs just for the public good. This isn’t volunteer work. While the mission may help offset things like the lower pay, fed employees are human and they have limits. If the general public and politician sentiment continues in the direction it’s going I will quite likely decide this is no longer worth it.

Sounds like they are CSRS. Or "retired" to work another job. My fed dh will be working until he is 70 to get the maximum current pension to combine with social security.

This. Government workers were calm and relaxed while the government put restrictions in place on most private industries that put tons of people out of work (either officially or unofficially by simply not allowing them to work to get a paycheck). It’s long overdue that the bloat was cut from our federal government. I don’t agree with everything that Trump does but this one I’m looking forward to.

Many functions will likely move to the states anyway. So unless you’re doing something completely useless, you probably still have options if you live in a blue state. There will be some disruption but that’s life.

You are so dense. Most gov workers were very sympathetic to those who couldn’t work because of the pandemic, and fully supported PPP, eviction freeze etc. it’s the incoming party that opposes all that (well except keeping PPP to help the bottom line, whoops can’t find my workers).

I am ALWAYS upset when a layoff happens, most especially when a profitable company lays off people to goose stock.

Yes, I am stressed. I don't think it will be good.

So I’m not really the breadwinner in my family but I am quite nervous between this and the tariffs that Trump is going to destroy the economy.

I'm not depressed just a bit stressed about the unknowns. I'm fully remote so its not clear how they are going to handle that.
