They had recently been evicted. Money mismanagement I guess???
Neighbors and former landlord have spoken to the press. Seems like the mother was a complete nightmare: locking kids out of the house for hours (with kids banging on door to get back in), mother driving up and down street drunk, mother passed out in driveway or on front lawn with car running and music blaring, mother screaming. Father seemed to not be much of a problem but also seemed to stand by while wife did all this. Mother recently arrested for beating and tying up her own elderly mother.
Contra the opinions of JD Bowman-Hamel-Vance, maybe more women should consider not having children.
If they are going to ban abortion we need to take the shame out of giving children up for adoption. Some of these mothers don’t want these kids and we need to accept that. A lot of women keep children out of family and social pressures. Let them hand there children over to another family and go on about your life.
Wtf. People aren't lining up to adopt abandoned children. We already have an open crisis in this country.

Maybe Grandma was refusing to provide the free child care JD said she should
The village failed these kids. And of course the idiot Father who bought his troubled son a gun for Christmas even after he had threatened to shoot up a school. Both will go to jail, people will be satisfied that justice was served and the system that makes guns very easy to access and failed to help these kids will not change and there will be more school shootings and tiny coffins in a few weeks.
There are tons of messed up families like this in destitute areas across the country. While all of these kids don’t turn to mass murder many grow up to be violent adults or addicts.
They also grow up to be people who insist that they "turned out just fine" and so we don't need all that mental health and social service b.s. We don't need the kind of community supports that lead to healthier, happier children and fewer dysfunctional adults. Rather, they'll argue for fewer participation trophies, more whippings, and maybe Jesus. (Even as they mostly ignore Jesus in favor of the Old Testament God who resembles the kind of violent father figure they're used to.)

Other countries have not maintained safe schools by arming teachers and installing metal detectors.
We DO NOT have to live this way.

Young white male citizen. The Maga crowd loves to blame immigrants for everything but most perpetrators of mass shootings have been white male citizens of the USA
WRONG. Mass shootings are 3 or more shot people. Black people are the largest perpetrators of these crimes. Over 52% of black men who make up about 6% of the population.
They're also the poorest. But you don't want to help with that.
The shooter in this case seems to be from a poor family too, with a history of at least one eviction. I don’t see anyone making excuses for him because he’s poor though. You think white people should be held to a higher moral standard?
The mom also has numerous arrests across various GA counties as well as drug/alcohol use. Why wasn’t child protective services called when the FBI and local police had already come to the home? Why were the children left in the home when they strongly suspected the kid posted those messages? Sounds like teachers, family and neighbors knew it was a very rough situation but no one helped him. Just telling the schools to watch him clearly wasn’t enough. This is indicative of not just that community, but how we as a nation treat families and esp children in need. We reap what we sow.
A lot of these people reject the help. They don’t want nosy neighbors or the state in their business.
There should not be guns ina the house of a raging drug addict with children.
