The last time we saw Brandon was at his wedding, and the last time I saw Mike and Barbara was at our son's bar mitzvah, fifteen years ago.
Real estate investing relies heavily on debt and timing. If the market is floating all boats, leverage through borrowing is wonderful and everyone wins. When the cycle isn't good, then leverage is a death knell. Mike survived a harsh period in his real estate investing and re-established himself, I can see how Brandon might have followed his father's legacy, investing and borrowing into the headwinds of a challenging COVID impacted real estate market where it becomes impossible to refinance properties or sell them for what you paid/invested. From my personal perspective - and that of my family - the Miller's were wonderful people. We are sincerely heartbroken.
How brave you, anonymous. You got sucked into the web of deceit.

She is a thief. She was spending all that money on clothes and $800 facials that was not hers to spend. They were $15 million in debt and taking money from friends. So gross!

She must have willingly ignored red flags. She had to return rental furniture to save on spending and given the importance of aesthetics in her life, there is no way that she was uninvolved in selecting the furniture in the first place. The Hamptons house is in foreclosure, which doesn’t happen overnight. They were receiving notices for a while, probably by certified mail. Several friends had already dropped her after losing significant amounts of money in her husband’s failed real estate scheme.
I lived in ny and knew two families where the dads served time for white collar fraud - they made up a fake ticket reselling business and used the money on gambling debt, vacation, and private school (which is how I knew them). People can be audaciously brazen. These families continued to travel, send their many kids to private school that cost 55k a year, despite owing their defrauded investors, and kept on trucking in the Hamptons. It was wild to see. Eventually they went to the federal penitentiary, but I think one is already out and has his career back.

A lot of them, yes.
The link above makes for an interesting read. She must have simply gone to workouts and treatments every day and come home to the homemade chef meals.
