By the time you are 45+ and in the dating world due to just being single, or divorced, or widowed, you realized there are a lot of guys out there who are not "safe" --- they are not safe for your financial future b/c they have a lot of debt or no savings of their own; or they aren't safe for your mental health b/c they are controlling or critical, or don't care about your feelings; etc; etc.
It's a tough world out there, and I don't begrudge any woman who values feeling "safe" -- "safe" so that one can RELAX in a relationship and not be worried about what warts might show up with the next guy you start to get excited about. Prioritizing your desire to feel safe is o.k. with me.
On a separate note -- how "safe" could Joan have felt with her late husband who is spoken of as a saint -- but who apparently was involved in hundreds of thousands of dollars of fraud and stealing from government contracts with kickbacks, wire fraud, etc., etc? I mean, she talks about him as this guy who took care of her and made her feel safe, and yet, he was looking at jail time if he hadn't had a terminal cancer. And she made a big point (perhaps in an interview for a magazine if not on the show) that she and her husband worked REALLY, REALLY, REALLY hard to save and set up their financial future, so she wanted a guy on Gold. Bach. that would be in a similar financial position. (I don't begrudge her not wanting to be some guy's meal ticket.) But, ... hmmm... now that we know the late husband took a lot of money that was supposed to go to minority businesses, it doesn't seem like they both worked "really, really, really" hard to get the money for all the surgeries, and nice house and such. Say what you want about Gerry, but he earned his money legitimately, and lived within his means.

I kind of feel like Chock's mum was dying for a while.... but not actually circling the drain. So she took a sudden turn for the worse and that was it. Not ideal when away travelling/ filming a show, BUT he had already said she was rooting for him so in the big scheme I think it's NBD that he wasn't there.
And as far as only being gone a couple days, her estate was likely settled, this was not a surprise, family knew she was going to pass, so really just physically seeing your loved ones/checking in on them is all that is needed.
It was night and day seeing her move from Ketih to Chock, though. Every question she asked was responses from him like 'exactly! I'd love to talk about this someday with you!'... oh, how do you feel about xxx 'wow- yah! These are the things I would like to really get into with you some time!' and no actual meaningful conversatioins. Then Chock rolls in and they were hiding in a stone corner in each others arms and Joan was just like IFEELSAFE. lol
I had to rewind Guy's kissing scenes with Joan to show DH as it was so gross. We have this thing about when people don't open their mouths close to one another and just open wide and come in for a kiss... this is what he was doing and his tongue was RIGHT THERE pushing out in the grossest way. The white denture veneers + lurking tongue + open mouth was just like #BREATH and so gross.
I hope Charles and Gary find some cute and nice ladies as they were so sweet.
Cap'n Kim is probably hate-watching the show and whittling a tree branch into the SS Constitution.

Agree. I'm okay with paying for something rather than do it yourself as long as you can afford it, but it's a turn off to be completely unable or unwilling to ever do basic things.

Pascal is the kind of guy who expects you to look picture perfect at all times. He has the fast car, the great house, and he wants a woman who looks right for his picture perfect image. I wouldn't want that pressure. Avoid him!
Re: wanting a guy who makes you ferl safe...I don't think there's anything wrong with wanting a partner who you trust will have your back and be there for you. That's all it means.

Pasquale has actually grown on me a bit. His background of growing up in difficult circumstances and his willingness to be silly on the dress up date changed my opinion. I’m not saying he’s right for Joan, but I like him.
Joan is great, but I think the producers made a big mistake choosing her for this season. They just had a season with “I lost the love of my life I can barely go on, but I’m doing it.” Her story is the same as Gerry’s. I think Joan is genuine, but it’s just a mistake to repeat that immediately. A divorcée or someone not so caught up in their grief, even someone who never married would have been better.
I also would not let Gerry within 100 miles of that set. All my homies hate Gerry! They missed an opportunity to bring some of the fun OG women back. Their dynamic was so fun. The guys are nice together, but it’s not the same. I’d rather see less of the dates and get Joan having wine with some of the girls talking about it all.
Dan was not very charismatic, but he seemed truly kind, family oriented, and willing to be spontaneous. I think Joan made a mistake sending him home. We always knew sweet. Charles L would not be the one, but I will miss his presence. I hope both of them find happiness off screen.

I really liked Dan, agree that he is kind and would be devoted. However, I do think his health issues might be a lot to take on for someone who not long ago watched her husband die after a painful illness. I'd be scared.
She keeps saying she wants someone to make her feel safe, whatever that means. Dan was not it. (as a woman, I don't understand the 'safe' comments.)
I think you’re probably on track with what she’s thinking, along with PP who mentioned his health condition. I can understand wanting the feeling of safety or protectiveness. Unfortunately I think women often get dazzled by a good show and miss out on men who really have the capacity to give that. Being stable and not having a giant ego are a better foundation for that I think.

True. Also Joan was a SAHM for more than 20 years, was quite sheltered. She might miss that feeling.

It is kind of sad. Reminds me of how many people are walking around with scars from trauma.

I've always thought Guy &. Jonathan's stories were suspect. They both claim to have been blindsided by divorce requests.
