A symptom of DCs problem is that the city believes all of its problems are extrinsic. Mayor Bowser likes to do her part by casting blame on Maryland and particularly PG County for DCs crime problems. But the facts don’t lie. DC has had over 220 homicides this year while PG County, with 50% more population, has had about 60.

It would be equitable if fines for moving violations were enforced throughout the DMV, maybe she could start there? It is unfathomable that she has not, in fact. Would boost revenue and public safety.

You can blame Maryland and Virginia for that.

Maintaining basic public order and safety is a primary function of government. Further sign of societal breakdown...

Baby steps toward restoring order. A safer more orderly transit system would make RTO more appealing. Per the GM of WMATA, almost all criminals arrested in the system fare evaded. In VA, fare enforcement often turns up weapons, outstanding warrants, etc., it has not been decriminalized there.

That DC decriminalized and made civil enforcement not workable has resulted in a lot more violent crime and criminal behavior on WMATA trains and buses and in station, including smoking drugs on the trains. Glad to see Pinto taking steps to restore a bit of common sense and order.
