Go woke and go broke is going to be DeSantis' presidential rallying cry.

Wow vote Republican and get hammered by taxes. What is it with Florida republicans and huge tax increases?
Orange and Osceola don’t vote for DeSantis so he doesn’t care if their property taxes go up. Because today’s Republicans govern only to benefit their supporters, not all the people.

Still not going to root for a corporation. Forgive me if I don’t trust an entity whose sole existence is to make as much money as possible. Disney can do it’s great anti-bigotry work without special treatment.
Hm. It seems that Disney will actually get a $163 million dollar a year tax break. That's how much Disney kicks to Reedy Creek on top of the actual taxes in order to cover all the expenses. Once RC is dissolved in the counties take over, that $163 million is no longer collectible from Disney. The county taxpayers are on the hook, or the services at Disney (potholes, inspection, fire, police, etc are greatly reduced.

DP. You realize this will hurt average middle class Floridians, right?
Why?!? Will Disney relocate to Chicago? Maybe Mayor Lightfoot can make a pitch.
The appeal of Orlando and So. CA is weather. Why on EARTH move to a climate that forces shutdowns for at least 1/2 year due to weather?

I think given this 2+ year trend, it is safe to say, as the CEO did, that the parks are no longer a priority. Its entirely possible the CEO made a calculated gamble with this, that getting on board the hollywood battle cries against dont say gay would be better for business (streaming) than appealing to its more conservative park goers.
There was a pandemic that Disney had to deal with, as you may recall. They were closed for months. That drop in revenue hurt Disney, just like it did other businesses all over the world. Disney streaming didn’t do as well as anticipated.
If you read the first link, you'll see that he made the streaming-first decision PRIOR to the pandemic. And your reading of the situation may alter in light of the fact that Universal Studios, which as parks in the same locations, are enjoying record high profits. They gained more visitors during the pandemic fhan they had prior to the pandemic. So why is one theme park rolling in the dough, expanding to construct what will be the largest park in the US, while the other has the worst performing stock on the Dow?
This isnt due to culture wars IMO. Disney made a decision to deemphasize its parks and go full hog on the streaming content, and that means appealing more to hollywood types. And those business decisions are failing.
Before you mistakenly attack Universal, one of their most popular merch items has a rainbow and says "love is universal." They also pumped lots of $$ into the Biden campaign.

He is a man who came from immigrant Italian background, came from middle class parents, went to Yale and Harvard law on his own merit. Served our country in the Navy in Iraq. He is far more intelligent and grounded than most other governors, and he has a true appreciation for traditional family values and respects parents’ right to have a say in their children’s education. I for one was shocked when all of a sudden the short “Out”, about a young boy coming out to his family, suddenly popped up on my Disney+. Without warning. Without consent. Luckily my children are not old enough to use the platform on their own, but just think of how many children are given access to the content by their parents under the assumption that the content is developmentally appropriate and wholesome. I think Disney has gone so woke, it’s making Walt Disney turning in his grave. DiSantis has a backbone and common sense. I would be proud to call him my president. I really don’t see what the problem is.
Agree. He is refreshingly different and in a good way.

Disney doesn’t get any tax exemptions from Reedy Creek. It still pays full county and state level taxes while also fully funding the district infrastructure operations and services. Dissolving the district would be a tax break because it would no longer have to fund the district infrastructure - that would be paid by the counties, which would not be able to increase taxes on Disney to fund the cost of maintaining the infrastructure and providing municipal services.
