Charles is well-known to have been a horrible father in his own kid's childhood and didn't get along with Phillip (who thought he was weak) in his own youth. Its weird to me how families will butt heads for decades but when one dies the waterworks come out.

NOT BRF expert but was it like shown in The crown.. one gets an impression that Mountbatten was just a tad too much wedging his fatherly love between Phillip and Charles? Was it because his ambitions did not not fully realized when Phillip did not get the King title. the Mountnatten name did not got a status he expected etc.. so looks like he moved on to influence Charles at, what seemed the expense of Phillip/ Charles relationship.

Nah...the Commonwealth Nations will fight to abolish the monarchy when Elizabeth's reign in over. We like the Queen...she is like our benevolent grandmother but we don't want Charles or William.

At this point being part of the commonwealth is an asset for any outside Big strong countries.
No advantage for the big ones. Hor them it is decorative formality.
