So now you’ve added health care and child care....

Minimum wage is not and was never designed to support a family.

No health care? really? you really think people should be without health care?

And if you don't let people have families, prepare for the revolution.

You can have families, but again, minimum wage is for minimum skills and not designed to be a permanent wage to raise a family on.
If you can’t better yourself, that’s on you, not me.

You can afford food and shelter on minimum wage just fine if you don’t have cable, cell phones, car payments etc.

Now someone will post that those are necessities in 5...4...3...2

You're living in a fantasy world. Please show us all how you would live on $15k per year. Don't have any medical emergencies!

Exactly. Democrats play checkers while Republicans play chess.

Republicans play to win by any means necessary.

yes, democrats realize that government is not a competition. It is people coming together to try to make civilization instead of anarchy.

Republicans just see the whole world as a pissing contest. Why is winning so important to them? do they not have lives? children? families? communities?

Seems as if Democrats don't care that raising the min. wage to $15 would put 1.4 million people out of work. You call this "coming together?"

I personally think that any move toward raising the min. wage must be tied to using eVerify and there must be a carve out for small businesses.
Tom Cotton's plan is a good one.

Jobs that pay poverty wages aren’t good jobs. We can create better jobs if we cut those out and families could actually support themselves on 2 jobs instead of 4, or cash under the table. More jobs does not necessarily mean better.

Cutting out those jobs would substantially kill thousands of small businesses. And, small business makes up the bulk of our economy.
Go ahead and insist that big corporations - Walmart, Amazon, etc. - pay $15. Anyone supporting a family can seek employment at these companies. But, small businesses should not require this. Then, the teens and college students - WHO ARE NOT SUPPORTING THEMSELVES - can still be employed and the small businesses can survive.

What world do you live in that no teens or college students are working to support themselves? If a business can't afford it's labor, it's a failing business. Why do you think it's okay to ask employees to prop up these failing businesses by accepting poverty wages? And taxpayers by extension, since we pay for the welfare programs that these employees being paid poverty wages must then turn to?

Businesses CAN afford their labor. Now. Many of you want to pull the rug out from under them.
You also realize that many of those making minimum wage ALSO benefit from tips. And, many of these people do not want the increase because their tips will be impacted.

No they can't if the rest of us are subsidizing the wages with our taxes.

You’re not subsidizing the wages, you’re subsidizing the workers lifestyle. There’s a huge difference.

Oh, I'm sorry. I didn't realize needing food and shelter were lifestyle choices. I mean, who doesn't love the luxury of food stamps and section 8 housing.

We tip good service. Not looks. And, generally, we tip very, very well. Of course, except for haircuts, have not tipped anyone in a year. Amazing that you think only white people can be attractive, though.

I didn't say that (but I knew some predictible moron would claim that I did) I said it specifically benefits attractive white people, and has been shown to hurt everyone else. You can say you do whatever you want, but the research has shown that implicit bias absolutely has an effect on whose service is considered good and thus who receives better tips.

I used to work for tips. Tips are a total scam, and a way of employers effectively charging higher prices while paying their employees less. Instead of them deciding what their employees are worth, the customer decides, and most customers end up underpaying, but the employer doesn't get the blame. This is why low wage workers need the tips and high wage workers don't.
