Well. Jill Ellis said the decision was "solely based on soccer" so it must be true.

How long do you think Gregg Berhalter would last if he said, "I picked this forward to be my left back but it wasn't because I don't like the politics of the best player in the position?" Since Berhalter isn't a lesbian, he'd probably be gone in a flash.


Somehow I think they managed to do okay without her. Or are you proposing that teams should select lesser skilled players in the name of diversity? That's an interesting position for you to be taking.



Winning coaches usually select players based on what they need at each position, and not on whether they agree to wear pride jerseys.


But I forgot. This isn't about soccer. It's about politics. It's about "shut up and pay us while we insult everything you believe in."

That's fine. I don't care. I hope Rapinoe enjoys going back to kneeling for the anthem in front of tens of fans in her "professional" league that no one cares about.

Yes. And since the beginning of time, men’s soccer has always been a high revenue generator, with no investment or promotion. Just because men are better.


And yes, that is meant to be read with heavy sarcasm.

Sarcasm aside, you have no clue the work, time and, most importantly, money that was invested in the men’s game to make it the multi-billion industry it is today. Who’s to say that the women’s game also could not become a huge revenue generator? Give the women the same investment and the same opportunity as the men, and see what happens. One would hope it is a win-win for everyone.

How much revenue does women soccer bring in compare to men soccer? How much revenue does WNBA bring in compare to the NBA? I am willing much less revenue between the women than men.

1. No. Are you aware of how many more teen pros we have now as a direct result of the DA? The younger MNT players who played DA like McKennie, Pulisic, Adams, and Sargent are much more fun to watch than those on the current team who came of age pre-DA. If the girls DA ends up being as successful as the boys for the same low cost (well in the future, I know) it will be hugely helpful for girls soccer.

2. This is not the thread for this question. We are talking about the women after a really great World Cup.

I will be interested to see if there is a big boost in the number of girls going to play in Europe the next few years, either after or instead of college.

No, it is still too early to say. The boys that would have started at the youngest ages of DA, and thus benefitted from the maximum number of years of DA training, are now the age of the Pulisic’s, McKennie’s, Boyd’s and Sargent’s of the world. Let’s see what those players are able to do for the USMNT over the next 2 WC cycles.


DP. True, but having seen a lot of DA now, I am not optimistic. At heart it's still pay to play and thus weak.

Yes. You look at the Gold Cup roster...not too much quality when you compare to many of the mid-level Euro and South American countries (nevermind the powerhouses.)

Hopefully the success of Lavelle will help more technical players to get opportunities to rise through the ranks. The US still has a huge numbers advantage - like half of the female players in the world - so if a variety of players are allowed to grow and develop in the US system, the US will continue to succeed.

She was awesome. I love her demeanor as well. Rapinoe really was an incredible player back in the day, and stood out for her skills and intelligent plays in the ugly soccer era of Wambach. I’m glad she got another WC win and the Golden Ball. A lot of the young players on the team are fun to watch. I will say that I’ll be happy when Morgan retires. She’s great athlete, but annoying to watch these days (even putting aside the tea celebration, which I found really embarrassing). She should have been booked for diving a number of times.

Alyssa Naeher also exceeded expectations.

YES. And as a younger generation player, I’m grateful to all of the amazing women who have paved the way for me and future players. We have O space for all of the whiny complainers who live in a world of double standards. Women have had to overcome so much more than the men to play at the highest levels of sport so please, rather than spewing anger and bitterness, support our accomplishments. We are your daughters, sisters, friends. There will always be athletes of both genders who allow their personal politics to infiltrate the arena they live in. This is true of public figures in all professions. You can agree or not agree with their opinions but this is separate from disparaging an entire group. Take the high road.
