I’m no oprah fan, but hearing her voice come over the radio really gave me goosebumps. Launching into Hungry Heart was was perfect.

The Waterford’s fight was wonderfully twisted.

Not a best-ever episode, but a good one.

The original book came out in the ‘80s, and has been a hit for the last 30 years. Many people who watch the show (including me) enjoyed the book, and are excited to see an adaptation.


My DS is a rising senior in a Catholic all boy's school. He is taking AP Lit next year and Handmaid's Tale is one of the books he is reading. Considering many of the families at the school are super conservative, I think this book is about a lot more than politics. Glad he is being exposed to this.


I read it in a religion class at my Catholic university years ago. It prompted many interesting discussions from everyone. It was one of the few texts that had everyone talking.

I agree. When I saw all the blood, I assumed that the baby didn't survive.


Same here. I thought that fall did something to the baby when I saw all the blood.

Agreed. Her monologue to the new baby broke my heart, since it indicated imminent separation beyond whatever happens back at the homestead next week.

Yes! And June had such a powerful reaction to hearing Oprah. It was like when she saw Friends at the Boston Globe but a thousand times more quintessential and impactful. It was like you could see comfort and reassurance come over her and keep her going.

You people need to lighten up on the pregnancy/childbirth critiques. Suspend reality. This is entertainment after all.

I was stressed the entire time. And loved this episode.

According to next week’s trailer June goes back to the house, Nick is there as well.


It made me so sad when those headlights appeared. June had such a beautiful few minutes with that baby.
