I can't imagine a kid who has played travel soccer wanting to quite because of the birth year mandates. Has anyone seen this happening with their clubs or teams? Parents at my club are definitely interested in figuring out who is an '07, '08, '09 etc. to get a sense of which kids and carpool partners they might be grouped with for next year, but no one is freaking out about the change. And wanting to play with your friends seems like a rec league thing, and most rec leagues are staying with the current age groups.
YES. Parents and kids want teams to stay together in the age groups they are accustomed to, and not see the teams mixed up by the birth year mandate.

In our club (not VYS) the policy picks at U-9 are now having a head time finding themselves on a "low" tryout field for the first time at U-12.
Though small sided scrimmages only do not showcase a lot of talent. There really needs to be more skill evaluation---2v2; 1v1 and full field as well as some juggling eval.
The frantic ball hogs that dribble it into the ground are still the ones noticed. Smart playing---smart passing, playing to space, opening the field--you mine as well be invisible.

I am not sure who is spreading rumors of VYS losing players. If anything, we are seeing the opposite - players coming back after sampling what other clubs have to offer.
