It has nothing to do with age and everything to do with your confidence and/or fitness. I'm 36 and love sundresses (physically fit, but more importantly, confident in my body and how I look in the dresses). I certainly look/feel better in sundresses than I do in shorts.

How does cellulite show with a skirt unless it is short? Cellulite on calves is not a widespread problem.

Shorts, skirts, capris all look terrible on me. And I'm not overweight. I wear loose flowing palazzo pants or long sundresses. I hate bike riding because then I have to breakdown and wear shorts or a skort .....
I have spider veins on my thighs and calves. They started on my thighs when I was 18! So even though I'm tall and have shapely legs, I never show them. Long skirts and capris for me.
I'd like to wish my spider veins on the assholes criticizing middle-aged women on this thread.

50 here, size 14: In a sundress, no just no. long pants, no, noooo, I am roasting. Short shirt -- that is unfair to others and short shorts the same. Maxi dress -- a sofa standing on end. Likewise caftan/poncho. Its skinny capris for me.

Skirts are fine on occasion but they aren't that easy to do yard work in. They aren't the best things to wear on nature hikes or bike rides. There is a time and a place for capris even for skirt wearers...
And oddly enough I think that women who are in shape look great in just about anything - capris included. I know that when I've been doing my walking my thighs/hips trim down and I look fine in my capris.

I am 50. I figured out long ago that my legs looked stubby when I wore capris. I work out, and my thighs and calves are in fine shape, if I wanted to wear shorts. But my knees!! I don't know any older women whose knees look young, frankly.
So skirts it is. I find them more comfortable than capris, since you get more air on your legs when you wear them.
