Basically what SCES families are saying is that we would like other kids to have a long bus ride so our kids can have a short bus ride. Versus the current situation of all the kids having a medium bus ride.

MCPS decision to keep the Takoma Park schools assigned to Blair definitely makes sense for the county as a whole. I don't think moving TPES was ever seriously considered, nor in my opinion should it have been.

Not quite Takoma Park, but almost— moving East Silver Spring was considered. I’m glad it wasn’t in Taylor’s rec.

Where do you even live? Looks like they did reassign everyone near Blair to Blair, except for the folks nearish Blair but south of the beltway... but folks south of the beltway (SSIMS families) don't really think they ought to be assigned to Blair, do they? How would that even work?

DP but I’m sure many SCES families would like the whole school reassigned to Blair. Blair is closer for everyone, and Blair used to be right where SCES/SSIMS are now and is largely zoned accordingly. But yes it would require zoning another school away from Blair, which is another can of worms.

But most SCES and Highland View families can't even walk to Blair-- not quickly or safely, anyway. So it doesn't really make sense.

Another solution is to create an urban campus high school in DTSS. It would lack athletic fields, but you could partner them with an existing HS - maybe BCC once the purple line opens or Blair obviously. This could be a great place for an arts/communications magnet or a bioscience program (look at strengths -- AFI and United Therapeutics). They could have repurposed floors of the Discovery highrise or the video editing facility on Kennett, which was for sale for a reasonable price at one point.

They had this. It was called Old Blair.

Where are you even from? Are you a SCES or Highland View family? I assume you're fine with your elementary school having split articulation to get your handful of streets assigned to Blair, since I can't imagine anyone would expect those elementary schools to be zoned to Blair in full, right?

Also, are you seriously completely about a 10 minute bus ride being too long? Do you realize how long it takes for most kids to get to high school? If this is the level of inconvenience that has you up in arms, you must have a very charmed life...

It’s not a 10 minute bus ride with stops. We are an 8-10 minute drive with traffic and the bus is 30-45 minutes as it varies with traffic.

Okay, sorry, I was basing it on your posts. Regardless, that is an extremely normal commute to school. Not sure why you are acting like it is some tragedy? Are you really suggesting that all that extra time should be added on to the end of the TPES kids' bus trip instead of yours, which really would make theirs unfairly long?

Tpes is a choice which is why we decline it.

?? Are you confused and thinking about the Takoma Park Middle School magnet?

What I am talking about is that you seem to feel like you are entitled to walk to Blair because your bus ride to Northwood is too long. But the only way to do that would be to put Takoma Park kids on a much longer bus ride than yours-- including kids way the heck down in the Takoma Park ES/Piney Branch ES zone.
