We want to share an important update regarding the Garrett Park principal vacancy. Please know that the current principal's retirement is effective October 1st.

While we would very much like to see an appointment at the start of the summer, and initially hoped to appoint a new principal by early June, we have made the thoughtful decision to extend our search to ensure we find the highly qualified leadership our school deserves. We are ensuring we take the necessary time to make the absolute right match for the school. Please rest assured that our commitment to an inclusive process remains unchanged; staff and community members will continue to be a vital part of the interview panel as we work together to find the right match for our unique school community.

Sincerely,
Eugenia Dawson, Ed.D.
Director

That's nice!

Don't be fooled. They're stalling to find the right toadie insider who'll do Taylor's bidding. The "search" is performative.

She was the principal intern at Takoma Park ES, so parents there should be familiar with her.

Didn’t Takoma have a new principal only 4 years ago?

No, Dr. Gadsden was at TPES for 25 magnificent years.

Jeffrey Mehr appointed principal at Cresthaven ES.

Lisa Shorts said at a recent Eastern MS PTSA meeting that she planned to retire from Eastern in the next few years, spending out her career there. What is up with this? Sorry for Eastern- great principal.

She’s not gonna speak about her plans publicly. Schools like Banneker either get a first-time/young principal or one of the very best principals available - it’s a big challenge. Maybe she just needed a change. And she also lives closer to Banneker.

You're right, she didn't have to talk about her plans publicly, but she volunteered the information. I guess Central Office came to her subsequent to her remarks and she is making this change.

It just seems odd since she planned to retire in three years.
I think that might be okay. Most principals at Banneker last about 2 years.

She was at Leleck for almost 20 years as a classroom teacher, SDT, AP, and then principal intern. Pretty sure she would have stayed if the current principal left.

No, not Leleck. I confused it with another school. Oops. Must be a good school if she stayed that long.

Is she any good? How is Leleck a dumpster fire if she stayed there for almost 20 years..? Burnt Mills is no easy feat either. Dr. Ashton was a great leader. Reza has massive shoes to fill and her work cut out for her.

Looks like one of the APs, Mr. Clarke, is retiring along with Dr. Ashton.

Award winning principal from BCPS. I wish him well at Sherwood.

He couldn’t get a school in Mcps. Interviewed half a dozen times. Went to bcps because that’s where Darryl Williams, Zarchin, Charley-Greene, Yarborough and others had landed.

Now that Yarborough completed her coup of Williams in Baltimore, many came running back, while simultaneously MCPS became unapologetically corrupt and all the high school principals left so he came back to a job nobody wants.

Wish him the best, but the best job in Mcps is former MCPS employee.

Daryl Williams needed no help in doing himself in.

He may not have needed help. And they pulled off a coup.
