Honestly who cares. Essential workers still need to work despite the people at the margins calling out sick. People really worried about this are federal employees that live paycheck to paycheck or contractors that might not get retroactive pay.

Why do they need to vote on the original agreement? Its toast.

The original agreement was 1500+ pages of wish list goodies and a pay raise.
We need to stop the whole debt ceiling nonsense and at least make an attempt to live within our means.
They want to go home for the holidays, they will come up with something.

So you want to lift the debt ceiling when the whole campaign was predicated on cutting spending. If spending cuts are coming day 1, then there is no reason to eliminate the debt ceiling. This basically tells me the GOP is not serious about cutting spending at all.

The GOP is never serious about cutting spending. I don't know how this lie is allowed to persist. Any time they've been in power in the last at least two decades, if not more, they have run up the deficit.

True.

So cut out the pay raise and pass the rest of it. 190 million for childrens cancer research....why do you oppose that?

Do you have any idea what a CR is?

yes...the country has been operating on one for years because the GOP refuses to do its job.

DP. Eventually, after years and years of CRs, you need to add more things in. So that the CR becomes a quasi appropriations bill. A budget, as it were.

You seem confused. The original agreement had nothing about the debt ceiling in it.
