I am voting for Kamala but let's be frank. A two-women ticket would be hard to win. He was born in 1964, same age as Kamala. That is not terribly old. At the very least, two 60 year olds is better than a geriatric.

I also don’t see Walz wanting to be president when the term is up. this will open up the opportunities for Whitmer, Newsom and Shapiro

But she would have lost Michigan in return as so so many Muslim voters there pissed at Biden for Gaza response….

Shapiro would have caused party infighting which is sad to see a Jewish politician as controversial…

I don’t think Jewish politicians are controversial. I think politicians who behaved the was he has specifically (writing negatively about Palestinians, not responding to Islamophobia and crimes against Muslims in PA, and yes volunteering for the IDF in whatever capacity) are controversial.

This. If even one-quarter of your loyalty is to Israel and not to the United States, you should not be running for vice president or president of the USA.

It’s baffling and frankly pathetic that we have to tiptoe around an issue that is so obviously unacceptable. I don’t want anyone in elected office or in any federal position that gets within 100 yards of foreign policy that is even 1% loyal to a foreign government.

It’s bizarre to try to normalize loyalty at any level to a foreign state.

Is Biden making decisions with Ireland in mind? Trump with Scotland in mind? Of course not.

There IS a clear and unequivocal dual
loyalty conflict with some Jewish Americans. If you can’t tell that their loyalty to Israel goes far beyond your other neighbor’s loyalty to Italy or Germany or Argentina or Taiwan or wherever, that’s on you. But it’s not anti-semitic of others to point out the obvious.

All of that said, I’m relieved that Shapiro wasn’t selected. I don’t think he’s suitable for federal office in an elected or appointed capacity.

We do the same thing to Catholics running for office - questioning whether or not they'll defer to the Pope. The unacceptable part is that we do this to people.

It’s not unacceptable. I don’t want the Pope determining my access to medical care, and I don’t want Netanyahu determining my foreign policy.

I know people just look at short term winning and who looks good but substance is more meaningful. I am not yet sold on his substance. Having a good resume and knowing how to behave to crowds so they all think you're their friend is politics 101. He is a good VP choice but it does not make him in my eyes as a hero.

Would you please elaborate on his record? You can start with a resume.

Could oyu even imagine what trump would do if a bunch of kids tried to hug him?

This is cringe as hell. Maybe this plays at your book club, but this guy is going to come off as corny to a lot of people. Harris should have went with someone tougher, and less milquetoast, like Kelly.

If you think Walz is corny now, just wait til you hear him wax poetic about the corn dogs at the Minnesota State Fair!

Uh, he appeals to rural voters, Midwesterners, and Moderates. He will definitely not turn folks off from all the Israel/Hamas/Iran stuff going on the way Shapiro would. He doesn't come with any of that baggage and can play the role of happy warrior.

He’s super liberal now and he doesn’t appeal to midwestern swing voters. He appeals to midwesterners already voting for her. He gets her nothing.

Just FYI, voter turnout matters far more than the rare mythical swing voter.

Excuse me, excuse me.
This Tom Walters, Tom Waltz.
He’s terrible. One of the worst,
He’s one of the worst.

He set fire to Michigan,
Nobody could believe it.

And I may be taking a look at a new VP,
JT’s not the right fit, too much eyeliner, ok?
And the book, Elegant Hillbilly,
I wasn’t all that interested, to be honest.

So we’re taking a look,
Were going to be taking a look at it.

Pete Buttigieg
@PeteButtigieg
Tim Walz is an exceptionally effective governor - and also great to work with. I’m excited for what his Midwestern voice, military experience, and common-sense values will bring to our winning ticket, and for everything the Harris-Walz administration will deliver for Americans.
