Most teachers avoid AEM because of the bat$hit crazy people there.
I don't blame them. Someone posted there recently complaining that people post anonymously and didn't understand why. It's because of that OP and many others who are just nasty sometimes. Not everything has to be a fight.
I'm not the one who made that post questioning the increasing # of anonymous posts; but I don't disagree with her. I understand if a teacher doesn't want APS to see their comments and therefore an exception be made here and there; but there does seem to be an increasing # of anonymous posters and they aren't obviously from teachers. If parents are posting anonymously because they don't want teachers wielding revenge on their kids, we have a much bigger problem. I never knew there was an anonymous option and for the most part, I think it's wise to keep it transparent. Like the poster pointed out, the other people don't have the option of responding anonymously. And what exactly is the criteria for being granted permission to be anonymous, anyway?
I understand why someone might want to post certain things anonymously. But some of those anonymous questions/comments really don't warrant anonymity.
Lol! You’re posting anonymously on this thread about a topic that doesn’t really warrant anonymity. You see the irony, right?
No - this is an anonymous forum. AEM was not set-up as an anonymous forum.

Because of the loud and proud posters over there that are not really interested in helping anybody, but just having their voices be heard.

You can sign in and identify yourself. It’s an option some choose. You choose to post anonymously.
So do you.
So do you post anonymously on AEM?
Of course I choose to post anonymously because I value my privacy. I would never post on AEM, and for the privacy of my children, I would never post a question on a public message board that could be identified as an inquiry relating to them. I would also never criticize someone for making an anonymous inquiry if it doesn’t disparage others and is solely to get information.

NP. This doesn’t have to be an anonymous forum. There’s an option to make a username/account.

Exactly.
I agree that he should be encouraged to advocate his opinions.
However, I think it's hypocritical to post his commentary and discourage a discussion. The coffee offer is also so passive aggressive. Translation: You can disagree with my public comments, but not in public!
I didn't read it as people can't disagree with him, just he said upfront he isn't going to respond and get into a back and forth on social media. That's fair.
He won't respond to you but he'll ask for your $$.
I support his willingness to be a vocal advocate, but super turned off for the $$ requests.
What money requests?
His advocating for teacher pay?
He's set up some donorschoose type fundraisers to buy things for his classroom.
First one was an immediate success....therefore we all should have expected more to follow....
Tons of teachers do that. It’s ridiculous they need to spend their own money for some classroom supplies.
Agree. But they don't all advertise their donors choose pleas on AEM and then keep coming back for subsequent ones.
so you begrudge him advertising where it's effective and has a big reach? and where it's allowed? if you don't want to contribute, don't. where is he supposed to post that would be more acceptable to you?
i bet you are also a person who opposes higher taxes so you know teachers wouldn't have to do that.
I would prefer it not be one teacher posting one fundraising ask at a time and seeing how far he gets, essentially making repeated requests to the same audience; that other teachers do the same, or limit the requests one teacher can make, or better yet, have a separate website where all teachers can post their wish lists and make an occasional post on AEM to please look at that other site and consider helping out.
If AEM becomes inundated with fundraising requests, it (1) detracts from AEM being an issues-discussion and question-posing-for-information exchange and (2) becomes very off-putting, especially for those of us who are not able to contribute to everything all the time.
