I could actually vote for moderate Republicans, if there were any, because I think it’s good to have a variety of viewpoints on the SB. I’m leaning toward Saundra Davis for At-Large, but she makes me nervous too.

That is a very good point.
What I have not heard from any of the D candidates is a pledge to restore the focus on academics which once took precedence in our - dare I say - educational system? It is all just more of the same “equity! Safe-space! trans-kids!” - just like the current board.
Maybe this?

Ilryong Moon might be a candidates who can satisfy both sides.
On one hand, he addresses academics, closing achievement gap, improving school facilities, etc.
On the other hand, moon will be a steadfast ally of the LGBTQ community on the school board as always. Moon led the fight for equality for two decades by supporting LGBTQ student clubs, proposing and supporting the inclusive nondiscrimination policy, and standing fast for LGBTQ Family Life Education.

“ACADEMIC RIGOR
Continue closing achievement gaps especially as it relates to learning loss from COVID-19.”
The “achievement gap” refers to the SES and racial achievement gap. But her own party kept schools closed during Covid 19, even after 90% of the teachers were vaccinated (and vaccinated first), which is what caused much of the achievement gap we need to address. Also, her party often opts to address the achievement gap from “the top down” by eliminating or reducing top level course work for the best students. Virginia-specific examples of her party doing this are the unsuccessful VMPI fiasco, the N-cubed elementary math initiative to eliminate/ replace AAP because: equity, and also the “equity grading” some schools are allowed to implement (grading based on the kids skin color). Which leads to her promise:
“Evaluate the purpose and value of homework to ensure assignments aid students in their learning.”
- Translated, she believes “homework is racist.” She wants to eliminate the additional learning and proficiency gained through student homework because: equity. The rest of her promises on the site are more of the same.
She represents more of the same failed focus and destructive policies of the current, disastrous school board.
If you vote for her, you are voting against your child’s best interests.

I just checked Robyn Lady’s site you linked, and all her campaign promises, since my kids go to FCPS schools in Dranesville. And in Dranesville, we have seen exactly what SB campaign promises are worth (ie - nothing).
Specifically, I noticed her promises:
“ Fully fund competitive salaries and benefits for all employees, especially teachers.”
- except, she left out HOW. She likely means: raise the already high tax rates on FFX residents. She did not mention cutting any of the many wasteful pet-projects and boondoggles created by the current Board, which is exclusively run by her own party;
“ Support FCPS' transition to literacy instruction grounded in the science of reading with ongoing professional development and appropriate learning materials.”
- notice how she left out the science-backed, and traditionally successful method: phonics? Some FCPS schools under the current all-democrat board use discredited non-phonics based approaches, which do not work.
“Support staffing ratios that account for the different proficiency levels for English Language Learners.”
- again, she left out where all the money will come from for her plan, or how she will address the massive projected increase. Does she not understand FFX county is among the top 5 destinations for people illegally crossing our southern border? Does she not know the recent average of 7,000 new people PER DAY are simply walking into the US, many with young children? Does she not know her own party is not doing anything to slow these new entries? I am in favor of helping people, but what about my own kids education here?.

That’s a lot compared to Davis’ page which really has nothing other than there are too many Democrats on the SB and she’s be “excited to see” more Purple Star schools.
The science of reading includes, in large part, phonics.
A lot?
A lot of vague, unsupported, empty-promises which at best echo the failed policies of the current board.
No thanks!
