It’s a very short road from the pinch and the punch to the paunch and the pouch and the pension

many days they were hard
when I was young you grew older
and many times we would part
many years since you’re gone
and all those times you would catch me
somehow I’m missing you home

so I pray you’ll take home my mind
and say it all again, try it all again, feel it all again
you’d stay, we’ll leave all behind
and say it all again, try it all again, live it all again

many seasons have passed
autumn and winter felt colder
why won’t one summer last?

many secrets we’ve kept
but when you left I grew older
and all the heaven turned black

You gotta get your groove on before you go get paid
So tip up your cup and throw your hands up
And let me hear the party say
I'm kinda buzzed and it's all because
This.Is.How.We.Do.It.

Well, I heard some people talkin' just the other day
And they said you were gonna put me on a shelf
But let me tell you I got some news for you
And you'll soon find out it's true
And then you'll have to eat your lunch all by yourself

This speech is my recital, I think it's very vital
To rock (a rhyme), that's right (on time)
It's Tricky is the title, here we go...

It's Tricky to rock a rhyme, to rock a rhyme that's right on time
It's Tricky... it's Tricky Tricky Tricky Tricky

I just love seeing all the Bruce lyrics throughout this whole thread. There's no doubt he's the best song writer of the last 50 years.

While I love Bruce and think he's brilliant, I'm not sure that he's the undisputed best song writer of the last 50 years.

The last 50 years have had some incredible song writers in many genres including Paul Simon, Stephen Sondheim, Elton John, Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson, Billy Joel, John Lennon, Bob Dylan.

For me, I personally think that Paul Simon is the best songwriter of the last 50 years.

NP. Best songwriter is Bob Dylan, period.

Too many words.

Its like the old Twain quote "I apologize for such a long letter. I didnt have enough time to write a short one"

Also, Elton John is one of the most talented musicians and vocalists, but the lyrics to his songs are hot garbage. Bernie Taupin is terrible "If I was a sculptor, but then again, No" is arguably the worst song lyric of all time.

John Lennon may the right competition for Bruce.

Totally agree this Bernie Taupin line is awful. It's nails on a chalkboard to my pedantic grammer heart. He needs to use the subjunctive here... "if I WERE a sculptor".

... our education system is so bad here....

Assume you're posting from England?

I don't want to sit across the table from you wishing I could run. I want to love you madly.

Both Bernie and Elton are British…

For real. And if it was a one-off bad line, you could forgive it. But almost all of his songs just have the corniest and cheesiest and stupidest lines.

Take Billy Joel. Amazing. But the "making love to his tonic and gin" is a terrible line. Bc a "tonic and gin" isnt a real drink.

But you can forgive it bc so many of his other songs are near perfect.

+1,000,000. "Mars ain't the kind of place to raise your kids/In fact it's cold as hell/And there's no one there to raise them/If you did" might be a close second.

Yes! This always strikes me when I hear this song. Just so many reasons why raising your kids on Mars is a non-starter.
