She said retire or divorce and he chose to play.

When you love someone, you don’t divorce because they won’t retire.
I bet he cheated. Or he’s totally checked out and she’s over it.
You divorce when you are furious and can’t stand each other.

Turns out father knows best. It’s really not a secret why its happening. Brady just doesn’t want any part of life without playing football. He doesn’t even want to coach it, he wants to play. Usually as the years go on people grow and change, and they shift their priorities. He just hasn’t. It must have been disconcerting for her to come to this realization that’s it might never happen. Or when it becomes inevitable that he has to leave because he’s using a walker or whatever, she might wonder just what sort of depression he’ll sink into with the loss of the only identity he apparently truly cares about.

Dp and completely disagree. He checks out of the family from August to January. She agreed to it and they agreed to an end date. He reneged. She said it’s us or the game. He chose the game.
I’d walk too. This is common when you marry a workaholic. It’s easier to just leave and make your own happiness.

Sigh.

Nobody knows what happens behind closed doors. But if she said retire or divorce, and he retired but then changed his mind then that’s another layer to the story.
