What Culver or Hill or any of these schools do has nothing to do with the IAC. Except maybe to give cover for apologists of Bullis's approach locally. (We're not as bad as IMG Academy." isn't going to impress the other IAC schools)
I expect Bullis will continue to water the grass. But than don't try to have that and acceptance into the IAC Gentlemen's club at the same time.
But let's be blunt.
These other schools and their supporters (parent's alums, etc) see what Bullis is doing and would disagree that this is even close to anything the other schools have ever done. And it's just not lacrosse. Football would be Exhibit "A".
Bullis has never had an IAC rival like SSSA v. EHS or Prep v. Landon or STA and Landon. It's always been slightly outside the loop. Technically an IAC member but really thought of as "A public school you pay for"). The current Bullis IAC nickname is "Falls Road High School".

Bullis has been aggressively recruiting for football for the past several years. Admitting kids who were asked to leave other IAC schools for academic or disciplinary reasons has become the reputation of Bullis. Your football is notorious for bringing kids in the fall for football season who happen to leave after Christmas break, believe me, I have heard this first hand from several current Bullis families who are not happy.
This year alone, Bullis admitted a kid from another IAC school who left on very "rocky" terms and poached St. Andrews starting goalie. Not to mention somehow convinced the #1 recruit in the country to transfer in from over 2 hours away.
GP will not stoop to your level as they don't need to.

It's a question of scale.
One or two cases are one thing. But wholesale recruiting of kids across a number of sports is yet another.
I admire the creativity and chutzpah of the Bullis strategy. They are trying to make a traditionally unattractive school more attractive.
But the other schools see how this is done and react accordingly. No one is going to elevate Bullis to being a "Rival" no matter how many games they win.
Bullis is selling these people a bill of goods suggesting that it's just like the other IAC schools. It isn't and never has been.
The Bullis strategy may work and attract more and maybe even better applicants. But the already low opinion of the school among the other schools is going to suffer.
This disapproval in and of itself isn't enough to dissuade Bullis from pursuing a strategy that has worked a lot of other places. Build a winning sports program, get exposure and favorable press, improve campus enthusiasm and then increase academic standards. It's the modern day version of the Notre Dame strategy that elevated a small Catholic college in the wilds of Indiana into something better.
Fellas, this is a national trend not limited to the DMV so let's stop complaining about it...btw St Johns has a QB from Hawaii on its roster! Prep with its boarding is able to pull from farther out than Bullis and other local IAC schools. Prep was dominant when its former coach recruited and developed players. Bullis is investing on the academic side of the house with the new STEM building, ironically endowed by a Prep alum who sent kids to Bullis. They are sending kids to good colleges so the formula is working. Why Prep lax is languishing has more to do with itself and less to do with Bullis or any other school.
This is a lax board, so back to lax. The reality is that many kids who have the talent want a chance to play for a strong program, be seen and go to a good college (college prep academics). If you offer those three things, talented kids are going to want to go to your school. Bullis was attractive to several top players the last few years because it offers those 3 things. Btw, just because you have "D-1 commits" does not mean you win...you need coaching and development. No question the Bullis staff outcoached Prep and Landon this year.
Just look at the top 4 seeds in the GEICO Lax Nationals tourney that will play locally in a few weeks (and on ESPN)...Culver, Hill, Salisbury and Bullis. Bullis is in the minor leagues compared to the other 3 when it comes to recruiting student athletes: the other 3 schools pull kids in from across the US and from Canada. Culver sent EVERY SENIOR on its lacrosse roster to a D-1 school last year...do you think that is just serendipity??
Stop griping, water your own grass and make it greener.

Prep going to the Catholic League has been discussed.
EHS and SSSA going to an All Virginia Private Schools Conference has also. There are a number of schools they could align with and never have to cross the Cabin John Bridge at Rush Hour again.

The IAC is one of the most esteemed and prestigious high school athletics leagues in the country. No one is leaving and no one new is getting let in. Its the ol' boys network in DC and they still have a strangle grip. Maybe next decade...
If they leave and go all Virginia (with PVI and O'Connell) then Gonzaga and Dematha and St. Johns become free agents. Feels like a good trade to dump the bottom of the IAC for the top of the WCAC. And we no longer have to cross the river in traffic. Big winner for the IAC.

Prep's two periods of football dominance were based upon the excellence and attractiveness of the football program in that era. Except for Marcus Mason, these teams were filled with kids who were part of the group from which Prep would normally recruit. (Catholics from lower Montgomery County and NW DC)
Bullis's latest foray is much different. This is a tops-down school-wide strategy to try and improve the school by leading with the Athletic program. They have cast a wide net even to far-flung counties to do this. People aren't stupid. They see what's going on.
Ironically, GP's last expulsion from IAC football was led by the Bullis Head, who said he feared for the safety of his players.
Since this is a lax board, let's bring it back to lax. Looking at this objectively based on performance, Bullis is on the rise along with St Johns, Gonzaga, and even Paul VI at the expense of Prep, St, Albans and Landon. Calling out Bullis for excessive recruiting in lax is pretty silly as all IAC schools actively recruit for student athletes. The biggest investment made by the Bullis school is in a STEM/Engineering facility not a new athletics complex as was the case with Prep. Bullis does host a lot of camps and clubs on their campus to generate revenue. Trippi the Metro player of the year in 2017 was at Bullis in middle school...the other top players were recruited from the DMV region...also note that the Bullis players seem to be going to some pretty good colleges: Ivies, Naval Academy, Duke with a few solid D3's mixed in so they're not dummies. Prep still actively recruits for all sports from well outside the DMV due to its boarding program in excess of what other IAC schools (with possible exception of Episcopal) are capable of doing....As an example, Prep's best senior attackman was a HS freshman in Florida and then moved to the area to play lax at Prep and re-classed. Prep also brought in a Fogo/Mid from Episcopal as a junior. It would be great for the region to see Prep become a dominant program again, but don't think that is going to happen w/o a change at the top. The irony is that Prep was so dominant under Giblin for so many years because he worked his tail off recruiting kids as young as middle school getting them to come to play on his youth club teams or at his camps and then come to Prep. Now this crowd is heading to St Johns, Gonzaga or even Paul VI, and Bishop O'Connell....
The difference is that Bullis actively goes after kids and offers them money to attend and play for them - regardless of financial need. Its the only IAC school that does.

2022 not anywhere as dominant as the 2021 team for sure...most of 2022 going to Landon and Gonzaga, 1 to Prep and 1-2 to Bullis
