Already said, the "event" started when he got off the plane and met dignitaries. I guess we can go back and forth with me saying that getting off the plane and meeting dignitaries is an event and you saying no, but it would make more sense if we agree to disagree. Saying something over and over doesn’t change people’s minds.

I am a very casual dresser but I think if people are meeting you at the airport and not holding up a sign with your name on it, you are definitely in “not jeans” territory.

He is in a meeting. That gathering on the Tarmac is a meeting. This is how diplomacy works. The SecDef has a diplomatic role that is understood and implied. We want to show respect to allies and partners, make them feel important, even the smallest of countries and the smallest of economies.

OMG, read the article. He was simply speaking to our press prior to leaving and then doing the meet and greet after landing. No meetings yet. Get a grip.
