They all do except for a few. Schools could barely get 10-15 out there if they didn’t. Schools want rec and club to grow the sport but are unwilling to provide fields and resources.

Has the sun set on PVI? Very weak finish to end the year. And no JV team. What’s going on out there?
That's precisely the problem. The new campus is so far away it will limit the depth. Good school but will have a real challenge attracting families to head that way when there are so many more choices closer to the beltway.
PVI was 98% Loudoun players the last two seasons and did fine. New coach and recruiting will help build the team.

Look at where the players are headed to college from each of those rosters and there's a trend. What about JV? I'd also question why they will end up playing 6-7 fewer games. 1-2 came from advancing in WCAC. Another 1-2 will come from not advancing in VA this year. The school will have to be really creative to keep up. Like most schools, the administration and athletic diretcor and coach won't have the skills to come up with solutions other than to give scholarships. It won't work. You need a much larger mass than the 2 basketball players per year.
The problem facing PVI is the same problem impacting DMV lacrosse overall. The number of kids who play rec lacrosse is plummeting and there aren’t enough club players to fill Varsity and JV rosters. The best club kids want to go to a very small # of top private school programs. Those schools have huge JV and Varsity rosters. The rest have no JV, little depth on Varsity and can’t compete with top programs. It’s not just PVI. SSSA, Epsicopal, Heights, and STA won’t break thru to top echelon without a dynamic coach that can recruit the small pool of top players
Aside from SJC, over the last 20 yrs has any DMV school gone from also ran to top program? And as good a coach as Speaks is, SJC would still be an also ran if it didn’t get the massive inject of Under Armour $$. Bottom line, if your school doesn’t already have a top lax tradition and culture it’s really hard to build one
I am not sure why people compare PVI with the other schools. PVI is definitely a different market. Aside from a few PW and FFX county kids the teams have been almost all Loudoun players. The school was moved there as the only Catholic private in the county. In the past I know of really good lacrosse players who chose the school first and the sport second. These parents never once considered going to SJC or GZ or Landon. Last season the team was VISSAA champ and played a competitive WCAC final. The year prior was VISAA runner up and probably second to the best SJC team ever. That is most likely the high bar for PVI. It is realistic they will get there again in a season or two.

PVI's previous coach refused to recruit a 2027 class as a whole which is crazy and what has caused such low numbers this year.
The previous coach's departure early last summer and the resulting lack of a head coach through the entire fall also destroyed significant recruiting opportunities for a rather talented group of players in their 2025 class. Namely, the MadLax goalie, MadLax pole and MadLax LSM.
Their 2026 class is very talented and very deep and should do well in WCAC and VISSA over the next 2 years.
After that who knows what will happen at PVI.
MADLAX dad has entered the chat.

participation fell off a cliff in the mid-late teens pre-covid in the dmv. it'll be catching up to the privates, or now has been already. probably going to lead to greater bi-furcation at the top, as there will be fewer to go around, and those few will chase the ring.Anonymous wrote:Maybe people realize that high level boys lacrosse is a fun but challenging road and when you add post covid lifestyles, participation really falls off.
