There is decades old feminist research that documents how female crime victims are sexualized, as fodder for purient entertainment.
There's also a sense of control. "Look at him, I knew right away something was wrong with him, therefore this could never happen to me". Except that he's a decent looking dude who looks just like everyone else, who could be considered attractive by many standards...
Have you noticed that the individuals involved in these types of crimes (both victim and murderer) are usually fairly attractive couples and often the murderer is engaged in an affair.
The ones that are publicized, you mean? It ups the public interest level when the people involved are rich and attractive.
So, are you saying that fat/unattractive people go missing under mysterious circumstances like this but the media doesn't report it because the missing person isn't attractive enough?
If Lacy Peterson had been ugly do you think that the whole thing would have been swept under the rug? I find that really hard to believe.
Lacy Peterson was pretty and she was white. Double whammy. If she had been black unfortunately it probably wouldn’t have gotten much press.
Here’s why. People are interested in unusual events. Unfortunately, an African American woman being killed or missing isn’t unusual to most people. They expect criminal activity from this group of people. It’s NOT expected for Ivy League graduates and married white women. So it’s newsworthy. If African Americans don’t have higher rates of violence then similar cases would also be on television.
A black woman who is missing hasn’t engaged in criminal activity, so this attempt to rationalize bigotry makes no sense.
I wasn’t saying she was engaged in criminal activity. But white people sadly expect bad behavior from blacks. Most of the violent crimes in the US are by blacks. It isn’t newsworthy. Why do you think kids being shot in school makes the news but someone being killed in gun violence in Baltimore does not? Because we all know and expect gangs to kill each other in Baltimore. It isn’t unusual or surprising that gangs are killing each other in Baltimore.
You keep eliding the difference between what “we” believe about potential perpetrators and what “we” care about when it comes to victims. The racial differential in attention paid to crime victims is not logical; it’s a reflection of racism.
A tragedy has occurred. 5 innocent young children are left without a mother and a father. Yes, she happens to be white, Jewish, a Brown grad, and wealthy. Can you not let the racism discussion go long enough to express sympathy for this situation?

Rich people from Farmington, wealthy NY family, come on...if a woman who lived on Albany Ave in Hartford, the place where Fortis dumped all the bloody trash, had disappeared like this, it would not get this attention, because it is a poor and minority area.
That's the sad truth. Here's another case that's not being widely reported-a young pregnant (single and black) USPS letter carrier disappeared on her way to work several months ago in Chicago. Her bf is being not cooperative. I only know about this because I work for the USPS and they are still looking for her-but it didn't make big news like this.
Is anyone going to the media on her behalf, posting missing person fliers, organizing search parties? If not, why not?
I assume you’re talking about this woman? It has been on NBC. There are flyers everywhere. Her father quit his job and moved to Chicago to focus completely on the search. Of course it’s not as high profile as the other case but it’s not like no one is paying any attention.

Her union has, I'm in it too so that's how I knew about it. The USPS has also. On a local level, I get the impression that she's not a priority for law enforcement.

What possible reason could his attorney offer for why Dulos and girlfriend were driving around dumping bags with items that have Jennifer's blood?
All they have to do is bring it back to the fact that there's no body and you can't convict someone of manslaughter without absolute certainty.
He probably would have taken a deal if CT had the death penalty.
The standard is not absolute certainty. It is beyond a reasonable doubt. A prosecutor can certainly prove that when the GF flips and they have dna evidence from the bags he was driving around in the car that is in camera.
He is guilty as sin and so is that girlfriend. How she is out right now is beyond me. She was liter
ally caught on tape dumping bloody crime scene items. WTH? What more evidence do they really need?
What do you mean? She has been arrested and made bail. That is generally how it works.
How on earth did she get bail in the first place? She should still be in jail with no bond.
