I'll bite. What are you hearing?
Among other rumors, that there will be a shakeup for the MD Spirit- possibly dropped by Spirit, and Baltimore Armour adding girls DA program.
Is that really just that Spirit is going to keep the patch but outsource the admin to the partner clubs? I had hear that at least at the younger ages, they were looking to do that in VA with GFR (though who would coach those teams I don't know....)
Possibly. Word got out the new Spirit guy wasn’t a fan of the youth program- had to put out a release to calm people down.
No big deal. Win-win if another entity manages the administrative portion of the program, but it is still owned and coached by the Spirit staff, which would have to be the formula. No other org is authorized by US Soccer to be a DA locally (Arl or FCV won’t be “merging” with Spirit, if that’s the recycled thought) and they aren’t getting rid of an NSWL DA club, despite what a couple people here dream about. Having Armour and GFR manage the paperwork/communications etc while the coaching staff sticks to the technical stuff would help to streamline their operations.
In what universe is GFR qualified to run a DA?
Two comments-
1. They would only run the administrative pieces in this scenario, not the technical program, which would still be Spirit coaches. The admin piece of DA travel soccer is travel soccer.
2. I don't know how anyone can come to the conclusion that the MD side is much more successful than the VA side other than in one age group (that matters)--the U15's. The 16/17s and the 18/19s are comparable between the sides in that the 16/17s aren't doing well and the 18/19s are. When the current 13/14s make it to age groups that matter, we can compare the two sides, but as of now 13 is a pilot and 14 is the 1st official year and a lot may change next year.
What exactly is changing at U14 at Spirit VA? They can’t seem to attract any new players at the ID sessions. Is there some secret stash of players no one knows about coming out of the woodwork at the 11th hour?
