BBC, Have mercy on us poor listeners. Give us each day Jane O’Brien, or Katy Kay, or anybody but Laura. Nothing personal against fair Laura. Her voice has driven many people away and has given BBC English a very bad name. For God’s sake please DO SOMETHING!

Maybe try a UK based forum to b**** instead of the endless complaints on a board local to the Washington DC area. The whining is getting tiresome.

I am from UK originally and I cannot stand Laura Trevelyan’s voice! It’s so awful- I cannot understand why the BBC uses her. It’s like chalk grating on a board. When I was living in The UK I never knew anyone who spoke so badly./Whine, whine, whine it sounds like that. Sorry to say we won’t be watching BBC news any more. They must have other presenters they could use. BBC please help!

Dreadful accent

I agee with all of the comments. I come from South West England where the common accents are as different from the London area as Boston and Texas. I have a great difficulty listening to Laura Trevelyan. The BBC accent of the 1950s was annoying but this is much worse.

A most irritating voice! Take her off the air.

Sounds like Travelyan is becoming annoyed. We have to express our dissent at BBC for keeping her on the air.

It is obvious that BBC News is ignoring this Site since it has been going for some time. How many people who can't take her voice have not taken the time to comment? Her Husband Head of ABC News must have a lot of pull.

Laura’s accent is absolutely dreadful for BBB World Service. Embarrassing. I am not advocating a return to received English instead a neutral vocalisation rather than the excruciating nasal sound. I am listening to her now, but not for long. Sadly in Britain, even when overs3as, it is often who you know and not what you know that gets you well-paid influential jobs. Bring back Katy Kay or Jane O’Brien.

Travelyan's claim that her family owned Slaves is beyond belief. She is constantly trying to portray herself as English Aristocratic which she can never do with that low class Accent. Why does the BBC keep us suffering with this woman. I have to turn off BBC News when I see her on.

It was almost humorous this evening to hear Travelyan claim her ancestors owned Slaves in Grenada. She obviously has a lower class English accent. An Accent we would rather not have to listen to. It would really be meaningful if she reimbursed Grenada the 5 million pounds her ancestors were given after Slavery was abolished. She wants to reflect upon what her family did.
I want to see her give some of her Wealth to that Island. What a hypocrite and we continue to have to listen to her horrid voice.
