It's not YOUR issue. She has close family in-state. It's theirs. If you are concerned about money, donate to the fund.
I actually find this to be a fairly interesting line of inquiry that extends well beyond this very unfortunate circumstance. If the health insurance policyholder is deceased, what provisions exist for continuation of coverage for the policyholder's dependents? If anything productive can come from threads like this, maybe it's that someone can learn something that would prevent a financial calamity on top of what would be a truly devastating event.
The answer is COBRA Law. Look it up.

Not PP but I'm assuming there are people here who know the family.

Passed by westbound this morning and MCPD had set up a your speed is ___ sign. Hopefully this is a prelude to greater enforcement presence on River. They used to hang out in the Holton driveway where there is a blind but I haven't seen much enforcement on River the last few years other than that cellphone op a few months back. Not surprisingly.

There's plenty that Van Hollen can do, and evidently did do. Common sense says, "If you want somebody to listen to you, it helps to get your Congressional representative (who is also running for Senate, is a smart guy, and gets listened to by all of the relevant people) on your side."

Probably because someone in the area knows Van Hollen and could call personally. It gets the ball rolling and when a Fed steps up it will often bypass a bunch of red tape which allows the substance to be addressed more quickly. Not a Fed issue, but it is how the game is played.

I am sure if your entire family were killed it would be a pressing issue for you. I am thrilled the addressed this dangerous intersection that has had many accidents and near misses over the years. Think of all the new, inexperienced drivers who use this road to get to Whitman....then think of the poor 15 year old girl who just lost her world.

She's a high school sophomore who has just lost both of her parents and her big brother in a horrific car accident. I have no idea what this family's finances were but it might take time to sort that all out anyway. In the meantime there is a young girl who has just lost her entire family and is seriously injured herself. She probably doesn't have quick access to much money herself.
People want to feel like they are doing something. Contributing to a fund for Helena seems appropriate to me. I have a kid her age and I just can't imagine....poor girl.
+1. It's just about doing something to help. Even if the family is financially solid, accounts and trusts will need to be transferred to her, lawyers may be needed for that - at age 15, she doesn't have quick access. Not to mention, right now she's in no physical or mental condition to deal with all that so it's likely that next of kin will just step up and start paying - this money will likely go to them for immediate expenses for Helena and her parents and brother and this way, they won't need to "collect" from her when she does get access to funds -- not saying they would if they are financially solid -- but I have to believe bills will start arriving right away from the auto insurance deductible to hospital premiums to whatever else.
Curious if you that are donating donated to the families that were killed in the church van in PG county a few weeks ago?

Nope, I don't feel shame at all for saying that this fund was not appropriate, but just so you know...The family has actually said that they request that you NOT DONATE to funds for Helena. They have set up a scholarship fund at Catholic University that people can donate to if they are so inclined. As suggested in previous posts, they have financial means and don't need the funds for Helena.

Maybe because Maryland gets a lot of transportation money from the federal government. Or maybe because Van Hollen is representing his constituents.
