Gauloise. The chef and his wife "madame" who ran the front of the house live near me in Arlington. They have a beautiful garden.

Cranks in Covent Garden, London. Big wooden communal tables, earthenware with vegetarian dishes and herbal teas. Very crusty.

for good food: Pleasant Peasant (Mazza Gallerie), Japan Inn (Georgetown), Red Sage (Metro Center), Amma’s vegetarian (Georgetown)
for nostalgia/fun memories: Austin Grill, Childe Harold, Uncle Julio’s (16th and U), rooftop of Hotel Washington

Nirvana, an Indian place on K Street. They had a different regional theme for each day's lunch buffet.
