so they are actively just trying to recruit teams and coaches from other clubs and then slide them into NCSL that way?

Parent FAQ - Spring 2026 Transfer Information
1. Can RBFC absorb my child’s current team as a full team?
Yes. RBFC can welcome an existing team. A team can retain its existing NCSL number
provided the majority of the team transfers, allowing it to be properly registered and remain
viable for league play. Our goal is to preserve team continuity—players, coaches, and
culture—throughout the spring season.
2. What is the process for transferring my child’s player card?
Please contact your team’s designated point of contact coordinating the transition. Firm
interest should be expressed no later than Wednesday, January 22 so that RBFC can plan
rosters, coaching assignments, and league registration in a timely manner.
3. What is the process for transferring my child’s player card?
Parents may request the release from their current club at any time prior to the start of the
season. RBFC will provide email templates and instructions to support families. Once
released, RBFC admin will add players to the league roster and create a league player pass
that is valid for the 2025-2026 seasonal year.
4. Do I need to pay any outstanding balance with my current club?
Yes. Most clubs require all financial balances to be paid prior to releasing a player.
5. What costs will RBFC cover for the spring season?
RBFC will cover club G&A expenses as well as coaching compensation. Players are responsible for
a per player fee of $190 which will include all league fees, jerseys, shorts and socks for each player.
6. What league will RBFC teams compete in this spring?
RBFC teams are scheduled to participate in the NCSL for Spring 2026.
7. Where will teams train this spring?
Field assignments will be confirmed by February. Expected locations are in Fairfax County (Great
Falls / Reston / Fairfax area)
8. What will the training schedule look like?
Families can expect two team sessions per week, plus optional technical sessions once fields
are confirmed. Sessions typically begin at the end of March.
9. Will teams keep the same coaches this spring?
Yes. Teams transitioning to RBFC will keep coaching continuity throughout the spring season.
10. How will communication work going forward?
Families will receive email updates from the club and individual teams.
11. Can players join RBFC if their player release is delayed?
This situation will depend on league rules. RBFC will support families during the transition. If your
release is not processed promptly, please reach out to us so we can help troubleshoot.
12. What are the next steps for families?
Families will receive more information about the release process, followed by additional club
registration information from RBFC.

"7. Where will teams train this spring?

The "Fairfax area" is very large. Fairfax County is very large.

This puts existing teams in a tough position, and where they may be persuaded by the loudest voice. This is where McLean and GFR could at least message families with a clear point person (or a few) to discuss what the options are and reasons for staying/going.

Why would either GFR or McLean be truly threatened by this club and have to convince players to stay? Please name a "new" soccer club that has succeeded in the past decade in NoVa. Any that you might name are going to be affliliated with a bigger club - Valor, VDA, etc. - every other club has failed or struggles to find field space and needs another club as an umbrella (NVU etc)

What is McLean’s involvement in this mess?

They're a neighboring club and probably ultimately more intimidating than GFR if they feel threatened by what Riverbend is trying to do.

GFR should be the bigger person and encourage the coaches to finish out the year and let the spring season conclude. But that is not what is happening. Whole teams are going to rbfc in the spring, mostly to stay together when parents form relationships and the kids want to see their team mates it matter. Rbfc is being too aggressive and their approach could backfire leaving the people that go with them without a spring season. I am very upset with gfr not doing more to communicate properly about this.

It seems odd to complain that GFR has not said more about R(b)FC’s secret plans. No one (except you perhaps it seems?) knows which coaches are planning to leave (I doubt it’s many). But why should they continue to employ coaches who are trying to undermine the club? For instance, I think if I knew a coach at GFR was secretly redirecting people who reached out to GFR about futsal to her secret second futsal club that she profited from, I would wonder if she could meet her fiduciary obligations to GFR in the spring or if she’d be working to undermine the club who was paying her.

If you know what coaches are leaving for R(b)FC, do tell…

Also, I wonder if Virginia has a cause of action for tortious interference with contract?

Pretty sure these coaches all have non-competes in their contracts and can't recruit players to a new club w/in a certain mileage range.

No coaches are recruiting anyone 8 to 15 years old. They recruit the families and when the mom/dad decide to sign their kid up for HYS or Phoenix Futbol, how can you prove that anyone "recruited" anyone? It's a family choice.

Any non-compete would presumably be broad enough to cover recruitment of/through the kids’ families.

Also a risk of a tortious interference claim against Riverbend if they try to recruit instead of a coach.

It’s tricky.

They are literally asking entire teams to come from an existing club to R(b)FC. Will be very easy to prove!

A careful reader will notice this has a lot of "cans." A quick search of the NCSL site indicates that NCSL has to approve the transfer. And part of that is based on the receiving club showing it is a functional club with fields, etc. Buyer beware.

https://ncsl.ottosport.ai/rules-procedures/rules-amp-procedures/ncsl-rules-amp-procedures-manual

and other local clubs (GFR, McLean, Herndon, etc) have to vote to approve it. don't see that happening. this is why fvu plays under gfr.

It won't be NCSL, because NCSL has to officially accept them. Unless they are playing under another organization.

If they had any success I would guess you would see it on their webpage so I would assume no.
