My fear is that the focus will be on certain areas downtown, shifting the druggies/homeless to other over-looked areas. This happened when the encampments at McPherson and Farragut Square were cleared out at the end of COVID. So many just jumped on “free” busses and headed up the hill to Mt. Pleasant and Columbia Heights. Downtown got better, but our residential area got worse. The fentanyl users on the street, in bus stops, in parks, in people’s yards exploded over night. Will this DC takeover just shift crime again without actually solving the problem?
