Why do they need to vote on the original agreement? Its toast.

The original agreement was 1500+ pages of wish list goodies and a pay raise.
We need to stop the whole debt ceiling nonsense and at least make an attempt to live within our means.
They want to go home for the holidays, they will come up with something.

Yikes, JD, no one else is going to believe your BS if you don't even pretend to believe it yourself.

To put it in perspective, for Elon Musk, $250 million is the equivalent of $26.21 for someone who makes $50k a year in salary.

To put it in perspective, the top ten percent of tax payers pay 73.7% of the total taxes collected, yet they still get just one vote. So stop whining.

Why are R's not supporting this stripped down bill? I don't understand--what do they want? a two sentence straight extension? or they just want the govt closed until 1/20, so nothing will satisfy them?

This is what Elon was advocating yesterday.
j j

How could any serious person advocate shutting down the USG until 1/20? That is going to wreck the economy and hurt a lot of ordinary people in and out of government.

I guess when you're a billionaire, you don't care about wrecking the economy because you have enough money to ride it out and survive and maybe even pick up some companies at a lower price?

But, seriously, who does he think is going to buy Teslas when we the economy collapses?

How is that going to wreck the economy?

You realize there were eight shutdowns in Reagan's term. Yet here we are.

Is the sky still falling?

There were not 8 shutdowns during Reagan's Presidency. There were 3 - one lasted a day, the other 2 were 4hours long.

Please stop spreading lies. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Government_shutdowns_in_the_United_States

There were 8 shutdowns.

https://www.history.com/news/ronald-reagan-government-shutdown-reasons

Oct 1982 - a stopgap bill was enacted - no shutdown
"The Office of Management and Budget indicated that no harm would be done if the bill was enacted Friday. ''Everybody goes to work tomorrow,'' said Edwin L. Dale Jr., spokesman for the agency."

Dec 1982 - no shutdown https://www.newspapers.com/image/225773891/?match=1&terms=government%20shutdown

Nov 1983 - lapse in funding was over Veterans Day holiday - no shutdown https://www.newspapers.com/image/257258414/?match=1&terms=government%20shutdown

You can see in this article from 1984 that it was the 2nd shutdown in 3 years (the first was 1981) - https://www.newspapers.com/image/885661649/?match=1&terms=government%20shutdown

1987 - government shutdown averted https://www.newspapers.com/image/939865810/?match=1&terms=government%20shutdown

So, no, Wikipedia was right - there were 3, not 8, shutdowns when Reagan was President. You might not, too, that Congress in those days took their job seriously and worked really hard with the President to AVOID shutdowns. Because their job is to run the government, not destroy it.

It was all a rouse; Trump wants a shutdown. He probably had Johnson allow all the crap so Elon and co. could make a stink about it. And the second CR (conveniently written in a matter of hours) vote only hurts Dems who are too busy whining about Trump and Elon to read the bill and vote against a shut down and provide aid to Americans. They are playing 3D chess.
Trump wants an inauguration

And he'll get that too...
how, if there is a shut down?

They get to benefit from this great country the most and have more to loose. It is a patriotic thing to do to pay taxes, unless this country is really a business and not one nation under god.
