Exactly. Moderate conservatives and centrists will prefer not to take a chance. You phrased it accurately. It's not that a large swathe of the country loves Biden or the Democrat Party. It's just that now they've had ample opportunity to get to know Trump and his lying, me-first-and-democracy-can-go-to-hell persona... they will either stay home or vote for No Trump.
Mathematically, it means Biden will win a second term.

Although I didn’t vote for him in 2016, when he won I actually thought for the first couple of weeks - maybe he’ll really do something for rural America, deaths of despair, crumbling infrastructure, etc. Crazy to look back on that now.

I’m not so sanguine. Destruction is pretty easy.
Trump is incompetent and mean. And much of what we take for granted rests on mores, not laws. Trump was bad in his first term and we only just escaped.

I don't think people will risk jail this time around. They saw that it's not an effective strategy, and it's not going to get them what they want. Aside, security will be ready this time so there's no reason to chance anything. Plus, the enthusiasm for Trump is at a 'meh' level. His crowds are acting relatively subdued and bored, and this is even before we get into the summer doldrums when he'll inevitably whine about the same things over and over. It's hard to listen to whiners for very long before you kind of just tune out.

Trump saw this and that’s why he’s saying he’ll pardon the Jan 6 prisoners. He needs to show them there aren’t consequences to breaking the law in his behalf.
