Cemetery Companies
“Cemetery company” means any individual, corporation, partnership, association, or other public or private entity which owns, operates, controls, or manages land or places used or dedicated for use for burial of human remains or disposition of cremated human remains, including a crematory located on dedicated cemetery property. Cemetery companies are prohibited from engaging in any of the following activities:
• Manufacture or sale of vaults, private mausoleums, monuments, markers, or bronze memorials
• Conduct of any funeral home or the business or profession of mortuary science
Exemptions
The Act relieves cemetery companies from the payment of:
• Real Property Taxes on lands dedicated to cemetery purposes;
• Income Taxes;
• Sales and Use Taxes;• Business Taxes; and
• Inheritance Taxes.
Cemetery property is exempt from sale for collection of judgments. Cemetery trust funds and trust income are exempt from tax and exempt from sale or seizure for collection of judgments against the cemetery company.

Are cemeteries protected from creditors under NJ law?

That would be much more valuable than a small tax break for a grave plot.

No, the tax exemption is just for the parcel dedicated as cemetery land. It won’t amount to much of tax difference at all. Please go look at the Code before you state you’re “pretty sure” about something. If you could put a few bodies on a big parcel of land and declare the entire parcel tax-free, we’d have bodies buried everywhere and no one would pay taxes.

My guess is they buried Ivana there because she died unexpectedly and they didn’t have anywhere else to bury her. They could have shopped for spaces elsewhere, but unless they had tied to a particular cemetery, it can be a time-consuming and difficult decision to make in a short period of time while you’re in shock and grieving. If this is intended to be a family burial plot, at least some of the kids may end up there and it makes sense that they’d want to bury her where they’ll be.

There’s plenty to criticize the Trumps for, this isn’t one of them.

OMG give me a break! People in their 70s, especially really rich ones, have probably made it known already where they would like to be buried (or scattered). Moreover, plenty of people die unexpectedly without their ex and kids being forced to inter them by the first hole of a Trump golf course! There is ZERO chance that they did this because there simply wasn't time for other arrangements for pete's sake. That is simply not credible.

Agreed. There’s absolutely no way it’ll be a family plot. Ivanka and Jared along with their children are of Jewish faith so I don’t believe they could be buried there. Correct?

And while I realize this family is largely immune to the concept of shame, I am surprised that no statement about this has been issued. What was the one piece of testimony in the Jan 6th hearings that Trump's minions really worked to call into question - that he had physically lunged at/attacked the driver of his vehicle. Because he knew how bad it made him look. And Ivanka has famously made an effort to cultivate an image of sophistication and graciousness (not that I buy it, but). This is her mother. It's Eric and Don Jr's mother.
