If MCPS offered premium summer pay for SPED teachers like they have done in the past, I might consider signing up. In the past they did an 18% premium for SPED teachers and paras. Many are burnt out during the regular school year and need the break from this year's chaos.

There's not enough teachers in the regular season before the mass firing

I work in a department of 13 Special Ed teachers and I think 6 of them are teaching ESY.

Offers for summer school have been going out this week. Some people got offers yesterday and today. I'm guessing they will continue into next week.

But who knows if they will be staffed.

They were supposed to make hiring decisions by April 22nd. If they wait any longer to tell people if they’re hired or not, then they won’t have staff because everyone will find summer employment elsewhere.

Did you specifically apply to ESY or to teach the regular summer school at the Title I schools?

With all the Special education changes MCPS is making it's worrying because I have heard there are schools where the entire SPED department has resigned and not returning to MCPS.

I applied to both.

At my school, we were told that our class sizes will increase due to cutting teaching staff, but supports will decrease because we will lose our bilingual counselor, 504 counselor, and other key non-teaching staff.

The decision was made to share the pain by shaking up what people usually teach. The result is 100 unhappy people instead of the 5-6 who might have transferred.

How is that possible? Are the counselors not unionized???

How is that legal to get rid of counseling and 504 positions. These people support special education students!!!
