The fight didn't start with the flag. The House has been debating the Equality Act. Greene has been speaking very vociferously against it. Newman has been supporting it and, in the process, mentioned her child. Greene has spoken and tweeted very disrespectfully about the child. The flag was a reaction to that.

Putting a flag outside your office =/= “starting fights”
She tagged MTG on Twitter and made a whole video about it for social media. Newman was itchin' for a fight, knowing MTG would do something insane.
TBH, it was better to just quietly put the flag outside her office without directly addressing MTG. We all know she would've flipped out at some point. Newman is going to be pin-pointed as an instigator in RWNJ media.

Parent of a kid who’s boyfriend is transgender. Would think Newman might get further having a private conversation. Rubbing someone’s nose in their bigotry only backfires. I get her frustration though.
There's no conversation to be had with Greene. Newman could've placed the flag and written about how she stands with the trans community, and mentioned her child too if she wanted. She shouldn't have even mentioned Greene. Why give that bigot any oxygen?
