Never going to pay one dime in reparations. I was born into and raised in poverty. Worked three jobs at times, went to night school which I paid for myself. Have never taken a cent of social service help and got out of the poverty hell hole I was born into. If you want a better life, work for it. I will not pay one dime because you won’t do what I and many others have done.

Of course not. They don't want your blood. They want your money.

I would still like someone in favor of reparations to state specifics: who gets it? what is it (how much: cash or programs, etc); who pays it?

Until you put forward a straw-man, there really is no discussion.

So, what if you are bi-racial? Do you pay, or get paid?

And what if you're descendant of European immigrants who came AFTER slavery had been abolished?

They're exempt from any payment, correct?

Yes, my ancestors (Quakers & Union soldiers) have tried to lift up others for centuries. And I’m not going anywhere.

It’s time to lift up black people in a meaningful way - eliminate the wealth gap.

You get no credit for that and PP's judgment is based solely on his/her perception of your race.

That's correct. But that's how reparations work. Nobody cares that her ancestors helped slaves. They only care that she white, therefore she must pay black people. Even if she is a poor white person with some black ancestors, she must pay wealthy black people with some white ancestry.

Lifting people up in a meaningful way? I am all for that. But that's an entirely different and much better way to conceptualize this.

Yup.

Let's stop racist thinking.

People are NOT their skin color.

NP. Some states have this or are moving towards this. It's not for one race but for all residents. I agree with it and convinced my very conservative Trump-voting sister and BIL that it's a good idea.

I live in a state with free CC for all. It works for some, but there is a lot of waste.
Some of those who take advantage of it do so because either their parents are insistent that they do it, or because they have no other planned option. Most of these kids don't attend class regularly and don't put in the effort needed to succeed. We also have a volunteer mentoring program that is quite active to assist these kids when they are juniors and seniors in HS to provide guidance in work habits, study skills, career choices, etc. Students are required to be in the mentoring program to be eligible for free CC.
It is a sad reality, but college is not the answer for all.

Yes. There is some slavery in this country today. But I don't think anyone is talking about reparations for them.

Then we are also going to have to demand that the countries where Africans sold other Africans into slavery pay reparations to the people they sold.
