She seems emotionally stunted and while Kevin blames himself for everything wrong in his life, Kate blames her mom or everyone else for everything wrong in her life. She has not ability to take responsibility for HER choices. Get therapy and get over it.
I can't tell if the writers are trying to get everyone to hate Kate's charecter or if they really have no clue how whiny and annoying they are making her. Too bad because I was excited to see her character have some depth and deal with her weight. Hell, she doesn't even have a job right now.

I think you're missing the bigger picture. She is so heavy BECAUSE she is emotionally stunted and can't deal with even the little things in life and is angry about it and hating life because of it. As a result, she turns to food to escape or to hide or to try and not deal with life. I love the way they are portraying her because they are showing how real (and emotional) her eating disorder is - it's not about eating just to eat. It's about eating because you can't handle life, and are angry about it.

I think Randall has fewer flaws as a person -- Kate IS a bit victim-y, and Kevin has lived a very narcissistic life, but part of any good movie or show is the complex, not-all-good-or-bad characters. Sometimes I think both Randall and William are less interesting because they are so "good." I mean, if I had to marry one of the Big Three, Randall, hands down, right? But a good show/movie needs flawed and complicated people to make it interesting.

I'm not sure it's the ones we relate to best as the ones who are goals. Clearly reading this forum many do not have the Randall-Beth marriage. But it is fabulous to see such a healthy give-and-take marriage on screen and thriving. Neither Randall nor Beth seem to me to be without flaws but they are portrayed as working to live their own best lives. I think that was the point of Randall walking away from his job and Beth getting freaked out by the pregnancy scare last year and them processing that together.

And I enjoyed having William back, however fleeting, especially those scenes about how it could have been when Randall was young.

And, yes, I noticed how tall Tess was, too!

Actually, I don't think Randall was putting himself in his mother's shoes and making a different choice. I think he was putting himself in William's shoes and following his example. He saw that Deja had a loving parent and full life, and it wasn't his place to insert himself into it. This is the same conclusion
William drew when he saw young Randall's home and bicycle.

Randall always makes me cry. And Beth is also wonderful. They are three dimensional in a way the others are not. My favorite line last nigh was Beth's line about cool nicknames Deja's mom had for her.

I felt the same. The Randall stories together with the child/teen Pearson flashbacks seem to be the real heart of this show. Tess growing isn't all that jarring to me since the first Deja episodes were about 3 months before this one is set. I'm just so happy that we saw the DUI and didn't have to worry over Kevin killing or maiming his niece in a wreck.

I am beginning to like Kevin more and more but I still can't get behind Kate.

I enjoyed tonight’s episode, but was a bit distracted by how Tess seemed to have grown a foot since we last saw her about three episodes ago!

Ha. So I get Rebecca there!

maybe its just me but if i ever ran across a lady or man for that matter in a grocery store w/3 infants, i'm handing over the damn onions. probably even buying her groceries

Moore did not receive an Emmy nomination for last season, but I don’t see how she can be denied this season.

I was fine with her not getting an Emmy nom last season, but ITA that she is *killing* it this season. For sure she deserves the nom!

Justin Hartley needs to be nominated for this season, too.

I do to, but being completely honest: her extreme weight is so incredibly distracting. I'm always thinking how uncomfortable she looks. I'm sure I'll get flamed for saying that, but it's true. I wish she wasn't so incredibly heavy.

I feel this way too. I love the direction we are headed with normal sized women getting roles, modeling jobs, etc. but Metz is an unhealthy size. I find it distracting too.

Yep. I have nothing at all against heavier actresses, but Metz's weight is truly unhealthy. She always looks like she's close to having a heart attack. I honestly wish weight loss was going to be part of her story line.

I agree. That was part of what "got me" in the beginning. Something so many deal with.
