Can't stand "it is what it is." UGH, so overused and maddening.

When a man refers to his spouse as "the wife" (as in, "I'd love to meet you for a beer, but need to check with the wife.") Why not just say ball and chain?

"He passed." What, passed you in traffic? No, he DIED.

Using "service" as a verb instead of "serve." Always makes me think the person is a hooker.

Using "issues" as a euphemism for "problems." Hate hate hate this, but it's almost everywhere by now.

I am religious and even I cannot stand, "We are so blessed." Really? Then people who did not get what you have are NOT blessed? No, do not care for this one at all.

Well, I get the cosmic muffin annoyance but for some reason it does not bother me a bit when any black person uses hackneyed religious phrasing. It seems more of a cultural reference rather than proselytizing. Especially when used with humor. When the "we are so blessed" comment comes from a white southerner I find it creepy. I know this is wrong. I'm a white northern woman and I'm agnostic, mostly.

My main pet peeve is the excessive use of qualifiers in our spoken language: "I SORTA hate that" as well as fairly, basically, slightly, sort of, and intensifiers such as definitely, extremely, really, very ... UGH!

It doesn't help that I'm an editor. Yes, when you speak, I am judging you. I am not SORTA or SLIGHTLY judging you.

It was cute the first time. Now it's just worn out.

Only relevant on this site as I've never seen anyone do this elsewhere (maybe its just one person?)but I can't stand when someone responds "BWAHAHAHA!" -- first of all who laughs like that, And second, what is it supposed to connote? Is it an evil laugh? A belly laugh? A vampire laugh? I don't get it and it's ugly. Almost as ugly as "tee hee."

That fence needs painted. (basically just taking out the "to be")

People who end sentences with the words "and what not." You may as well just say that you are trying to sound intelligent, but you're not. Argh.

"My kids just like to sleep"

You know...if their kid is a better sleeper than mine. My kid doesn't HATE sleep, he's just not good at doing it 15 hours a day like yours is.
