Those are good scores and they show that your daughter is bright, but it would be highly unlikely for her to be found eligible for the GT center.

sorry 13:52, but 98% is the percentile nationally. Yes, approx. 15% of population is in AAP, but that is 15% of FCPS population. In order to get a 114 on the cogat there was probably a score close to 100. That is a 50% percentile. Maybe 12:29 could tell us why she is even interested in this program.

My DS got a 136 on Cogat and GBRS of 7 (done in 3rd grade because we were out of state). His teacher had no specific reason other than he is not ready yet and definetely no behavioural issues. Her only complain was he was doing extra credit projects. We appealed and he got in. He is currently thriving in GT and he thoroughly enjoys school.

13:04: The committee will assume that CogAT and NNAT were prepped, and discount them.

13:16: What you are saying is not factually correct. The benchmark is 132 for in-pool in one subtest, which probably translates to about 120 overall. 15% of the population is in AAP, which is not consistent with 2% as a cutoff. Any kid over 80% nationally could be admitted with strong GBRS.

81% and 86% would be hard pressed to get in. The benchmark score they pick is usually the 98% percentile so that is a very big difference. I know it sounds like 132 isn't that far away from 117... but it is in terms of the ability it's measuring. Do you really think she 'needs' the aap program? Is she in the top reading group or the top math class and still pushing to do more?

What about if Cogat and nnat scores are very high, but GBRS so-so. Does the committee take into account that GBRS is very subjective and can vary widely depending on the teachers' preference?

It all depends on the GBRS value, which you do not know. I know of kids with similar scores (maybe a few points higher) that made AAP. Talk to the AART. If DC is going to get in, AART will have to provide a strong GBRS (14+)

You can submit a referral but personally I don't think there is a good chance. Do you have WISC scores that counter CogAT/NNAT scores?

I guess you missed the definition right above your post, 13:14

I guess you didn't read or understand the definition.

Do you think intelligence and ability are synonyms?
