(1) leave a child with another man (defendant) when someone EXPLICITLY told the mom and dad that this man is a pedophile abuser — did they not even ask their own children at that point??? — and how was this behavior “remaining vigilant”???;
(2) take a nap while leaving their child in a suspicious man’s custody, and then **bring gin** up (on a Saturday afternoon) to drink with defendant;
(3) allow him to return to a bedroom alone with the young girl even after coming back to his apartment from napping;
(4) let their daughter sit in another man’s lap!!!!;
(5) literally walk in on the child sitting on the man’s head and just WALK AWAY!!! WTF!!!!
This whole thing sounds like some type of orgy or throuple or affair while the kids are getting sexually abused. I hope they are doing fitness tests for the parents, who exercised remarkable negligence as well.
This mama heart is fully broken for these babies, and I can’t reconcile any of the decisions the parents made.
The victims (little children!!!) have a public YouTube account. What the hell is wrong with the parents? All of this is insane. Maybe there is a lot more going on here than reported in the charging documents. Those poor babies. I hope there is a GAL appointed.
It’s still up as of today. Yes, the mom knows and hasn’t taken the channel, showing her two little children, down. Disgusting.
Which children? The perpetrators kids or victims? Confused.

As an ASA parent, I can tell you that they are very strict about not allowing parents inside the practice facilities, and most definitely not in the locker/changing rooms. During meets at the same facility, all parents and coaches are required to use a separate bathroom that is monitored.

Why? What on earth would they say? They don’t background check entire families before allowing Swimmers into the program. They have no culpability so why would they comment?
The club could have said that it was deeply saddened to learn about the allegations and has zero tolerance for sexual exploitation. They could have also pointed out that the club has taken a number of steps to keeps its swimmers safe such as becoming safesport recognized, not letting parents or other spectators into practice facilities or locker rooms, etc.

These “charming” and “helpful” predators are counting on us to turn a blind eye on their grooming techniques. Heck, I’d straight out tell them to back off if I saw anything. Let them know you see what they’re doing, even if it’s not your kid.
Your child’s safety is well worth a little of my discomfort. If a predator knows I’m THAT parent… GOOD. Let there be more of us. Good men must also speak out, not just shuttle your own children away from potential harm. We MUST protect our children from sex assault. Nothing is more important.

Possible others. The family has been here for 6 or 7 years and have been very social. So maybe this thread should be moved from swimming.
We are shaken because he came across like any other dad. He liked taking pictures but he was generous with sharing them around and took some really lovely pictures of the kids. He only had access to the kids because he gained the trust of the parents and parents did trust him. I wouldn’t call him a hero, as the parent in the article did, but he was friendly and jovial. His wife is warm and really lovely to talk to. I can’t thinking anything that came across in a casual, family setting that would have set him apart from other dads, aside from the photography.
Now, weren’t very close so I can’t speak to any of the grooming behaviors or warning signs that may have been missed by parents there. But at first sight, this was not a creepy man.
The “wife is warm and really lovely to talk to.” She tricked you. She knew about the 2023 incidents because the police had a warrant for Thomas Mahony. She destroyed all the incriminating evidence and took the last chopper out of Saigon.

ASA parent of an older kid that went to the travel meet in Florida. The same meet that Thomas Mahony was at. I’m shocked to read about this. I just got the email from ASA (weeks after ASA probably found out) and stumbled upon this thread. I’m happy that OP put this out there.
That’s very insensitive for you to imply that this is a smear tactic by the OP.
Not insensitive at all. The media uses similar tactics to grab eyeballs and clicks. I do like how you are offended for the OP who could easily come back to the thread (or ask Jeff to change the title).
Also, there have been numerous threads here with posters taking ridiculous shots at ASA. As an ASA parent, I will defend the club where it is clear that it did nothing wrong. Why aren't you?
You need to wake up to reality. This predator had access to 2 entire communities of swimmers and their parents deserve to know the details of what happened. And all you’re worried about is the possibility of this thread tarnishing the club’s reputation? Shows where your priorities are. People take ridiculous shots at every single prominent swim club in the DC area, ASA isn’t unique in that regard.
It's not about me - even though you're trying to shift it that way. It's about the kids and the parents over the years who have given ASA it's great reputation in the DMV swimming community. Yes, this guy is a creep. But No, ASA had no involvement whatsoever. It could have been any swim club around the country.
The OP could have just posted "Swim parent arrested," but OP didn't. Likewise, the OP didn't name the summer swim team in the title. I wonder why s/he didn't
