MLSN1 (now MLS Homegrown) is composed by MLS academies plus MLS p2p clubs.
How MLS academies could remain BY if MLS1 (Homegrown) would go SY?
It doesn’t make sense.
MLS academies play MLS1, so if MLS1 goes SY then MLS academies also will go SY. It’s logical.
Did MLS1 or MLS2 announce that they would be doing anyhting other than BY?
No, I was just answering a previous comment that took that hypothesis as valid.
Here's an intriguing one. What if you keep the MLS Academies at BY, and the rest of MLSN at SY. Then the acadmey teams (who are stronger) play up in the next relative SY age group?
This is the frustrating thing about all the ECNL people. MLSN and GA haven't said anything about switching from BY to SY. At this point its becoming clear that they intend to stay BY. If they wanted to do something different the plans would have been announced.
All that's going to happen if MLSN + GA stay BY while ECNL changes to SY is that they wont play in each other's tournaments.
Also, there would be an incentive to create a youngers BY league.
Only reason to stay BY is if you don't allow HS play; makes sense for MLS top Tier, but not for second tier or GA. There aren't players on a path to pro at second tier so they are going to balk long term at not playing HS; same with GA, the biggest downside to girls DA was that people did not like the idea of not playing HS. And there is not a legitimate path to pro for girls like there is for boys no matter how many times some people say it. The salaries in NSWL are terrible and there aren't enough slots for path to pro to be legitimate for more than like 0.1% og girls youth soccer players.
How many Mlsn players to date have played in MLS games? People brag about this pro pathway but never have the numbers.
What's interesting is that every kid I know in MLSN1 (including my own) cares only about playing D1 or similar high level college ball. They are all U15 and older of course.
As far as whether they switch, MLSN2 will 100% be SY. But MLSN1? While I think it 100% makes sense for them to switch to SY, I don't think they will. I don't have any confidence in their leadership to make logical decisions. I mean, have you seen what they decided to rename their leagues to lol? So I think we will see a 26/27 with everyone SY (including GA and MLSN2) except for MLSN...

Part of the problem is assuming people are arguing from a pro MLSN or pro ECNL standpoint. Not everyone is. There are teams that are ECNL/ECRL now in clubs switching to MLSN2 next year. They still don't have schedules. They still don't know if they'll even be able to play in the state cup tourney. They still don't know if they'll have to travel out of state and when.
And clubs don't know whether to or how they'll need to move kids up from their RCL teams to MLSN2 if RCL is SY and MLSN2 stays BY.
It's a mess, all because MLSN and MLSN2 won't announce whether they're sticking to BY or going SY. They could at least affirm they're sticking to BY if that's the case. It's radio silence.
It doesn’t make sense.
MLS academies play MLS1, so if MLS1 goes SY then MLS academies also will go SY. It’s logical.

I don't think it's clear that GA intends to stay BY because there have been some talks/leaks of them switching to SY. MLSN is a different story though. And the fact that MSLN and GA have this "partnership" does not mean the leagues will mirror each other on what they plan to do. The boys and girls game, both on and off the field, are much different.
There has been one screenshot of a possible GA email or text message that could have easily been faked. Just like last year when it happened.
Oh and youve got the commenter on DCUM that claimed that Trish the Commish told them GA would announce SY within the week. This was a month ago.
I'll wait for GA to make an official announcement.

Huh? As of right now, with no “official news”, MLSN is business as usual…BY. Argue all YOU want. 🤣
The ECNL hats are wish casting again.
If they switch to SY won’t they just bioband all the May-July kids down?
It depends on the situation. If MLSN stays BY and they wanted to compete in a SY tournamant they can just "bioband" down however many players they can find born between 8/1 and 12/31. Theres no set rules .
However most likely what will happen if MLSN stays BY is they'll just ignore SY events only playing in BY tournaments. This will force SY teams to find players born between 1/1 and 7/31 if ECNL wants to play against MLSN teams.
People that comment here have ECNL on the brain and arent considering that both SY and BY leagues will have the same issue playing in each other's tournaments.
Realistically what will happen is SY league teams will be forced to play 6 month older BY league teams. This is because MLSN is the dominate league on the boys side. The only way to increase rankings will be to participate in BY events. This is why boys ECNL parents are freaking out so much. Going to SY could be really bad for them.
What BY events/tournaments? The only events/tournaments that would be BY (if MLSN stays BY) will be the MLSN events (Flex. Fest and Cup/Showcase). ECNL teams can't play in those anyway. All of the huge showcases (Jeff Cup, etc.) will all be SY.
Now I could see some of those huge showcases adding a top BY division to try and fish for more MLSN teams. But again, most MLSN teams don't play in tournaments!
There will be incentive for MLSN to invite ECNL teams to their big BY tournaments. Also there will also be incentive for BY leagues to create new new BY tournaments.
Neither of these things will happen.
"There will be incentive for MLSN to invite ECNL teams to their big BY tournaments" This is one of the dumbest things I've read here. And that is saying a lot.
" Also there will also be incentive for BY leagues to create new new BY tournaments." Sure. So MLSN is going to start a brand new 'open' tournament that is BY, but try and invite SY teams to it? Genius business move. And, they do so well now running their current events, can't wait to see this new one! I particularly like that it will be BY in a world where 95% of the teams that may want to go to it are SY. Again, genius business move! When do you think this new tournament will happen?
Hahahaha triggered much?
You think you have the world figured out. Unfortunately its not that easy. Every decision has unintended consequences.
Why wouldn't MLSN invite top ECNL teams to play in their BY events? Particularly at the younger ages. They know ECNL teams wont do it and if they do they'll be playing against BY teams that are 6 months older. Worse comes to worse and the ECNL teams win MLSN teams will just recruit their players.
