I can agree with most of this to an extent. Obama is a great communicator and exhibits elite leadership qualities. I also know that race played a role in him winning. I'm all for giving all multi-term state governors a fair chance to introduce themselves and their campaign platforms to the American people in 2027 & 2028. Beshear is without a doubt one of those I hope to see throw his hat in the ring ahead of the 2028 election. Three multi term POTUSs who served as POTUS for 24 out of the past 44 years were also multi-term state governors.

While multi-term governors historically make for promising POTUS candidates, there is no reason to suggest should be prioritized over other potentially promising candidates. Obama has one Senate term under his belt when he was nominated and elected and most would agree that he was a more successful and popular POTUS than his predecessor who was a multi term state governor.

We should all hope for a day when both parties return to have open and fair primaries with half a dozen to a dozen well qualified and fit candidates. No otherwise qualified and fit candidate should be considered not viable because they never served as a governor, or because of their gender, race, or religious beliefs. If a candidate of any background emerges victorious in a crowded field of well-qualified and fit primary contenders, they are the best nominee a party is capable of putting forward. Period. The end.

Obama, Clinton, Reagan or any other reasonably popular candidate would have won in 2024 with 500 electoral votes and 70% of the popular vote. Why is it that Trump couldn't even garner 50% of the popular vote in this situation? Because he is, relative to the norm, a weak and unpopular politician.

Me too! I wasn't on DCUM in 2016 but I repeated the same warning over and over on many message boards including DCUM in 2020 and 2024 regarding how ridiculously stupid people were being for nominating Trump and Biden. Did anyone listen? Maybe a few but the end result was one elderly unfit guy being elected just so he could turn around 4 years later and gift The White House back to the other elderly unfit guy who is also unhinged!

Umkayy... how is this dynamic of being popular outside of the DCUM bubble any different from 2020 when he LOST to 77 year old Joe fricking Biden? Again, with all the politcal advantages of being the incumbent POTUS seeking a second term, Trump LOST to an elderly opponent who could never even garner 1% of the Dem primary vote back when he ran for POTUS while he was of reasonable fitness.
