The publisher is an imprint that focuses on DEI/ hot topics-- stuff in the vein of "a very important episode on..." racism/genderqueer/etc.. So they probably wanted the controversy and bought that angle. But they were counting on the author delivering something readable that they could sell, and instead they got a jeremiad about her own personal baggage. A decent novel with this angle could have done well, especially locally. But OP (author) couldn't get over herself enough to write a decent novel.

I can see the follow up article: I was bullied by dcum. I haven’t felt that angry and embarrassed since Sidwell with the exception of that one time I called Lululemon 6 times. In four words: I send my kids to the “equally exclusive” Maret and I’m glad I do. Leave me alone Sidwell! Why are you so obsessed with me! 🙄
