My daughter is at Nightingale and saw Drew on a tour recently. Not sure what that means for her dds. I assumed they were at Spence bc the aunt (Kopelman’s sister) went there.
Suri is at Wake now.

It exists, but not to the extent it used to. I won't name the school, but the HOS at DC's TT NYC private told DH that sometimes he will make a phone call and go to bat for kids who may need a little extra boost to get into their schools of choice.
That happens at our non DMV (not NYC) private. It’s the sign of a good private school if your head of school is willing to make a phone call for the kid, especially after a deferral or waitlist.
Our non-TT NYC private got a kid off a top 10 WL. Counselor literally told my dc, “just a minute, I have to make this call to get this person in” and the next day kid was in.
This is a form of yield protection. The kid being on the WL is qualified for the top 10, now the school just wants commitment. And they have to do it this way (through school counselor) to get the kid withdraw from all other schools.
They can do this to private school kids, because their counselor has tight control on the kid's application.
More difficult in public schools, where the counselor has much less control on what the kid can or cannot do.
not really. its a small class. they know what is the kids top choice. at our TT private CCO, they meet with the WL kids in mid to late April to get a "ranking" of all WL. And then work those WL.
Its seen as a mark of failure if they can't get the kids off at least some of those WL. That's why its ranked by the kid.
"Tight control" means the kid cannot be off the list then end up going to a different school. What you said does not contradict mine. Of course the kid should have a preference among various WLs.

I’m not sure exactly where the kids of Katie Holmes, Sarah Jessica Parker, Emily Blunt (if they’re back in NYC now), Drew Barrymore, Tina Fey etc go to school in NYC, but presumably top NYC privates. And I bet they’re far from the wealthiest parents of kids at those schools when you take into account NYC finance parents. Unlike DC privates that have a lot of civil servants making $180k/year.
Katie Holmes - Avenues - eh
Sarah Jessica Parker - City and Country - eh
Emily Blunt - don't know
Blake Lively - Village Community School - eh
Drew Barrymore - Brearley - amazing
Tina Fewy. - Brearley - amazing
Ok this is scary…
SJP’s son went to upper school at Fieldston. He is now at Brown. Idk where her twins are but C and C ends at 8th.
My daughter is at Nightingale and saw Drew on a tour recently. Not sure what that means for her dds. I assumed they were at Spence bc the aunt (Kopelman’s sister) went there.

SJP's twins go to a non-TT school that has been mentioned in the past few pages, along with a few other celeb kids. I believe Suri went to Avenues then LaGuardia, though not sure of that. I think Seinfeld's kids went to Riverdale and/or Fieldston and all went to Duke. Duke has a super active program for rich/famous parents. Barron was at Columbia Prep until moving to DC. They kept him in NYC to finish out the year when Trump was elected in 2016 and they had armed guards all over the place.
NYC privates are full of old money and/or hedge fund money. Which is a different stratosphere than DC big law partner rich. But there are a surprising number of very, very upper middle class kids at these schools (i.e. $750k HHI). Which is still a ton of money. But it is nothing compared to these other families, particularly if they are paying $70k a year for private for multiple kids.
Part of me wants to know where the celebrity kids go. But most of me feels nasty even asking.
