Thank you for posting. I was in the UVA hospital when the survivors were brought in and my DC went there. I think UVA is doing everything it can to alleviate a horrendous situation starting with cancelling the football season and putting together today’s memorial service.


Hugs to you. This, and the student memorial, marching band evening, and beta bridge. Everyone on Grounds (and in the larger community) is gutted.

I agree with a PP a few pages back that said the gunman probably would have attacked even if he had left the university.

White person here. Yes- given that most mass shooters, particularly school ones, are white males.

+1. It was very hot button after the death in. Charlottesville at the white supremacist/nazi rally in 2017, when they wanted to remove the Robert E Lee statue. The climate thereafter and blm movement really has authorities and police giving a lot of leeway and hesitation.

No constitutional laws involved re UVA. The matter being referred to the Judicial Council was a determination if the shooter had violated campus rules about having a gun on campus and then was deceitful about it. That has nothing to do with the Constitution. And yes of course UVA and all other instate afraid of being called racist z!


You don’t think the fourth amendment applies here? They had no grounds to search his room. Yes they could have acted quicker to discipline him but that doesn’t necessarily mean that a tragedy would have been avoided. He could still have done harm even if he was technically suspended.

Actually I think you’re wrong. I think UVA is part of the commonwealth insurance program which I am pretty sure is self insured for liability.

Like within hours of the horrendous Indian Ocean tsunami in 2004, people were debating how much it would make our car prices increase. 228,000 people had just died.
