Anonymous wrote:Yes, BASIS has a narrowly defined target student. It’s not just students of a certain academic caliber. It’s also kids with specific goals and a family that likes and will buy into the BASIS approach. Some BASIS kids are very well rounded, but that usually means having activities an interests that don’t require school support but for which they get lots of family support.
Which is why a lot of families ultimately decide it’s not the right fit. The tricky thing is that if you don’t like your IB, your alternatives are also kind of narrowly focused. It’s not like ITS or CHMS are universally appealing.
I do think Latin Cooper is filling this role this year— an alternative for kids who are pretty academic but where BASIS doesn’t feel right. Obviously the original Latin campus as well, but generally that’s harder to get a spot at than BASIS.

Lol
Just a tourist, moved out of state last year after helping to build and grow one of the amazing EotP schools mentioned here. And Seriously, LOL. Just send YOUR kid to Eliot Hine. You all are so cute.
You moved out of state yet are lecturing people where to send their kids in DC?

BASIS DC high school was just ranked #12 in the entire United States, and the top high school in DC by a huge margin!!!

Wow. It wasn't even close....
In comparison, Walls was #102, Banneker was #226, and Wilson #280.
Great news for BASIS DC, especially on top of its latest #1 ranking for public middle schools in DC and Blue Ribbon School accolades.
The Basis haters on this forum must be gnashing their teeth in frustration.

Oh FFS. Jay Mathews is practically on their payroll at this point. Why is BASIS burning through its waitlist so fast, if it's so great?
Self-selection. Not every kid can handle Basis.
Wait list is moving slower each year.
